First I've heard of this dude from Brooklyn. Voice sounds like Nas.

I have a feeling he might be part of Nah Right's label project. They were the first to post the link when the souncloud had barely any plays which is a bit unusual. I could be wrong though.

His voice definitely sounds a lot like nas. Also, it's not really that good. I think they explained themselves how it got on though, cosigns from Sacha Jenkins and some dude on twitter called @timmhotep. Whoever that is.

I played it twice last night and liked it. Time will tell if it stands up to repeated plays I guess.

searching twitter, it seems that R'Thentic (now known as RTNC) is working with him, he even claims him part of his "new group" with some guy named DJ Skizz.
checking DJ Skizz Facebook and I run across this track from 2013

one step further and we get this

apparently, Mass Appeal did a write-up on IG, but since removed it

Droog in his name is friend in Russian or the Nadsat language Alex speaks in ClockWork Orange right?

Hmm...i think i like this more. Aside from it being waaaaaay more polished, I feel YOD is a better rapper. Rast got that natural talent shit that I'd like to hear in a more refined way but he also sings a little too much and his beats sounds a little too dated at times.
They both have a similar knack for finding creative/interesting ways to say things that have been said a million times.
Also, the whole "Rast robbed me in high school" thing still stings a little bit.

listen to the first 8 tracks here http://www.audiomack.com/album/nahright ... 3rd-street

Block, agreed about the dated beats, not crazy about him rhyming over 80s sounding stuff - he doesn't have the energy of delivery to match a fast beat. but on the more melodic stuff, where he croon-raps, the lack of polish lends itself to a folkish aspect and I dig it.

^Oh I agree about the lo-fi giving the whole thing some charm.
I honestly didn't think it was possible to record something that badly in 2014.

the 'official' has slightly better sound quality than his youtube stuff, for what it's worth

but yea shit is on some rap game mississipi records/sublime frequencies/'soundaway comp of music from an algerian ghetto in 1933' level of grassroots field recording

Well...kinda. a friend of mine (who put me on to his album) reminded me of a time he came to my house to sell me and my friends weed and then stole a whole bunch of coins i had rolled up. Maybe like 60 bucks worth. I don't recall it though but my boy swears it happened. i do vaguely recall a short kid with dreads and buck 50 coming through a few times to sell me weed. That woulda definitely been him.
That said, his crew RFC was around my neighborhood heavily in the early/mid 90's and pretty much every time I got mugged in the village (which was two times) I'm fairly certain the guys who did it were RFC members or lackies. Funny cause, years later, i'm friends with a handful of those same dudes. In fact, that "back in the dayz" song of his is like a who's who of low life downtown kids from my youth. Many of whom I still see every now and then to this day.

Liked "Nutty Barz". LOVE this EP. The Nas thing is unfortunate, even worse than Ghost/Bronson, but those who are not stupid will recognize that this dude can rhyme his butt off.

That shit changes over time if theyre good rappers. Bronson's whole persona stands apart now, and Ghost has been boring lately. I remember when I first heard Chamillionaire around 2003, I thought his voice sounded like Andre 3000 for a while.

Damn, somebody would die for 60 dollars of rolled up coins! I'd rather lose 120 of paper cash than 60 dollars of rolled up coins. It used to take hours to put the coins into those paper rolls.
Its funny, I hear a lot of where i grew up in Your Old Droogs music.

I'm a retard. I read that as "Rast" and not Y.O.D. my bad.
That makes a lot of sense. Isn't Y.O.D mad young? Like early 20's? He doesn't rap like a young dude and his references are very much what I'd expect from a dude over 30.
