Game sold more copies in 8 days than the first one did in 8 years. 17 million copies at 60 bucks a pop. That's over a billion in revenue in a week :ohsh:

Re: Red Dead Redemption (New Trailer Added 1.12.09)

Word. I'm super excited for this but on the fence on whether I should pick it up right away. Still need to finish Far Cry 5 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Zelda Breath of the Wild and have South Park The Fractured But Whole, Horizon Zero Dawn, Wolfenstein II, Prey and a bunch of other games still...

Spartan if you haven't seen Samurai Rebellion yet, you should put it at the top of your list. It's Kobayashi's masterpiece. Other ones I specifically think you'd enjoy: Shadow Hunters, Incident at Blood Pass, Goyokin, Sword of the Beast, Demon Spies Also Inagaki's Samurai Trilogy which is just the g...

Re: What movie did you watch today?

You should watch the original Fires on the Plain if you haven't already. It was directed by Kon Ichikawa (generally underrated compared to his era's peers) and is really great. Criterion put it out on dvd.
Didn't know about the remake, will have to check it out.

I was pretty bummed that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller didn't get to see this thing through to the end but I'm still pretty excited for it. Dude playing Han doesn't look/sound/act like OG Han at all though. Granted I'm judging that from just a few small clips in a trailer but it is concerning tha...

Re: What movie did you watch today?

Fair assessment. It may be his least fantastical tale to an extent. I loved it from the jump but I've seemed to appreciate it more as I think about it over time and how well all the pieces fit together. I think it needed another ten minutes of story to develop the relationship between the creature a...

I think Ayers just struggles, period. Legitimately don't get how he keeps landing big directing jobs. He's made six terrible-to-mediocre movies and one good movie (Fury).

Its actually a rip-off in the best way though. If the actual Last of Us movie comes out nearly as good I would be shocked.
Watch it. There are enough unique elements added to it that it becomes it's own thing. I think you'd enjoy it.

Also cosign Girl With All The Gifts, checked it out after the last time it came up on the :phila: and loved every second of it, despite it being a rather blatant ripoff of The Last of Us.

I gave $300 to this kickstarter and still haven't finished a single episode of the new season in its entirety because of how much Jonah Ray sucks as the new host. Zero talent as an actor and a face made for podcasts. I wish there was a kickstarter I could donate another $300 to punch it.

Word, its only eight 1/2 hour episodes too, so its easily bingeable in a single setting. Just finished American Vandal, pretty fucking amazing. I'd give it a rating of 27 out of 27 dicks. It's great because of how committed they are to the actual premise they are spoofing, they rarely go for cheap jokes and instead treat the mystery as important as any other true crime doc. Although its...

Also really enjoyed this, forgot to post about it. Personally I love the ScarJo casting as Major and thought they did a great job mainstreaming the story while keeping true to the look/vibe of the original. As far as hollywood adaptations of properties loved by nerds, this is one of the better ones....
