Re: Vince Staples - Summertime 06

Fantastic debut, for this day in age. Cohesive, realized, no filler.

But that "double album" tag is just an expression, right? Has anyone seen the physical media?

Re: illmatic XX

Think the LP have anything to do with its conciseness? This whole album fits on a single vinyl record.

Also, not sure if this has been mentioned, but Spotify profiles Illmatic under its Landmarks series. Features interviews with Nas, Large Pro, Premier, Pete Rock and a Columbia exec.

Yeah, that's just the new model. Click-bait sites make the money; magazines are dead.

But if "47 pictures of kittens" subsidize this level of reporting, I guess I could live with that.

Is this the Maybach Music sample?

I was listening to some old house tunes and heard a familiar giggle. Is this the source of the MMG sample?

Would love to hear any of the other eras if you have sets to upload.

Myron & E: Broadway

I just discovered these guys via this album stream (available for a week, I think), and I really dig it. They have a cool retro-soul sound, and they're on Stones Throw too, so nice work PB. This is their forthcoming album. If they have more music out there I would love to hear it. http://www.kcrw.co...

Did someone on here used to have this as their sig pic? I bought this at an antique store because it looked familiar. Anyway, it's a pretty random record, and I was wondering if anyone knew the back story.

Speaking of obscure, the G.O.O.D. Music record would've at least got a vote if it didn't leak out one single at a time.

Re: Track IDs

I looked those up, too, but that's not the sample that's getting me. I'm talking about that orchestral riff that sounds like an outtake from an NFL Films session. It could even be an early disco record or a Ztrip mix or something. Maybe this isn't the right forum for that question, but it's driving ...

Re: the TRAP thread

This is a classic glitch-hop (yeesh on that genre name) mix from 2006. Although I'm reluctant to consider anything that came out of Burning Man to be ahead-of-its-time, IMO this still sounds more innovative than anything TRAP.

Re: Black Hippy thread (Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, etc.)

Funny that Andre and Em are the touchpoints of this album, especially because it's true. That's what I like about GKMC. It's like the synthesis of all the modern styles of hip-hop without being showy. I get Andre's flow, Em's thoughtfulness and vulnerability, and also Em's diction (no racist). But i...

Here's a trap mix that got a lot of play this summer.
