See the movie that sexy beast is an homeage of The Long Good Friday Long Good Friday is the shit, my favourite criterion of the ones i have. I didn't know Sexy Beast was an homage, what's the connection? Any details? Not doubting you or anything, I just didn't realize these two as having anything i...

Saddest twist in a comedy EVER. The scene where Steve Martin figures it out makes me want to cry straight in the turkey.

Don't get hung up on the Criterions for Killer and Hard boiled. Both of those are FAR FAR FAR from being definitive versions, the criterion version of Hard Boiled is the shortest in release i believe. You're paying 60$ for the nice little "Criterion Collection" logo in the corner of the box, enjoy. ...

Don't bother with the New Police Story, it's mediocre at best. Obviously one doens't watch this kind of this for the plot, but in this case the story is so stupid it actually effect your enjoyement of the fights. Plus the action is far from his best, even these days. The Myth is getting good reviews...

Aeon Flux / Peter Chung appreciation thread

Picked up the Aeon Flux DVD, HOLY SHIT. I forgot how good it was, or more likely was not able to fully apreciate it when it was first out. Sci-fi weirdess mixed with action, Machiavellian intrigue and bondage = recepie for awesome Anime heads - has Peter Chung done any other series besides this and ...

And A Better Tomorrow 2 does not suck. The final action sequence is one of the finest John Woo ever shot, immediately putting it on the list of the best action sequences ever. I wasn't gonna nitpick, but since you brought it up I'm with you 100% on this. Disagree on Versus though, that's my shit. P...

That's some good picks up there If you're a fan of :wutang: at all, you have to own The Killer and Shogun Assasin (sampled on OBFCL and Liquid Swords respectively) Hard Boiled is pretty essential also, best action movie of all time. Agree with shadow, Kino has a lot of good titles but the presentation and the techincal aspects are usually ass. The Alain Delon collection is prime example - so many of his awesome later action/gangster flicks, but the video quality is like something I taped of public access. If they fuck up Clan o...

They are touring clubs. Small ones. Nikki Syx describing their late-90's reunion tours is one of the most sad and pathetic Behind the Music type stories ever.

All this is in the book btw, to keep on subject. Which is why the book is the shit.

I like idea, agree with a lot of it. Got to nit pick you on examples a bit though. Neither Miike nor Tarantino nor Fukusaku are genre directors, and never have been. Miike does everything from musical comedy to gore, sometimes together, which is something Fukusaku already did 40 years ago. Tarantino...
