If you don't mind me asking: What drum kits are you working with? I don't work with individual kits, pretty much all the stuff I found online was crappy and didn't gimme the sound I wanted. I either dig in old funk/rock records or rap records. If I can, I go back to the originals but if that doesn'...

for anyone to write like Kerouac again, as this article laments, it will require someone to live like Cassidy again. There's plenty of people living like that. Just very few of them spending extended amounts of time in North America/Western Europe/Australia. Just because the NY Times assumes that e...

I'd much rather read Kesey, Mailer, Thompson, Bukowski, or any of the other peripheral beat writers (I know, they all came later) Fair enough. I prefer Thomson though not necessarily the others. I never really associated those guys with the Beats though. I'd also put Burroughs ahead as far as Kerou...

Well I understand people calling it overrated in that there are plenty of books AS good that didn't benefit from a generation of hippies falling head over heels for them.

But that doesn't actually make On the Road any worse per say. my 2 cents.

Loved the book. Laughed at that article's mentioning Power Yoga'd out SAT students reading it.

It makes a good point that the book largely gets misread as overly dark and gloomy by the career set and aging critics who don't get out of the house.

As a director there is obv no comparison, but strictly on teh music side it's a different story. If nothi...

http://www.cineasie.com/MAJ_08_04/STILL_LIFE/STILL_LIFE_01.jpg Anyone else seen this yet? I was a big fan of "The World" and "Unknown Pleasures" but this is my favorite film of his so far and I'm really glad it won first prize at Venice (particularly since it was going up against Ang Lee and De Pal...

I'm not saying that Premo didn't give Gangstarr some amazing heat, but a fair share of my favorite Premo tracks are on Nas, Biggie, Jeru, Group Home, Jay, Fat Joe, etc's albums.

If we were to count those contributions I'd say Gangstarr's a better group, but I went with De La based on group albums.

Saw it last night and loved it. The "twist" didn't bother me at all and I liked the ending, I was praying to God that they wouldn't go with the "walking off into the sunset" (or umm...night) ending and they didn't so I'm good. Not into rating movies on a numerical scale but it was definitely one of ...

Well it depends what you're looking for. I ALWAYS walk out of a Tarentino movie with the urge to buy the soundtrack because he manages to find weird/obscure songs that I want to listen to on repeat.
