http://www.philaflava.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2092857#p2092857 Morbid? It may be even worse to maintain a list of deceased hiphoppers which I admit I have been doing on the downlow. I just tell myself it's purely for historical purposes, and not some twisted necrophiliac endeavor. That said, shout...

Interesting. I'm wondering if it also has its roots in Jocko Henderson-type dj patter and prison toasting/playing the dozens.

Re: Gritty 70's american action/thrillers
Speaking of The Outfit, I caught it for the third time recently- I'm amazed at how well its aged. Story, characters, action and the milieu it describes really quietly blows me away. Maybe top 3 of 70s american actioners, tough, lean, to the point.

Wow, I almost never visit this forum but upon seeing this thread I was like, :ohsh: It's always tough for me to narrow down a favorite live version (but definitely not impossible) since he was always a fantastic interpreter, or re-interpreter of his own tunes. Never wanted to perform anything the sa...

On a Kankick kick, looking for: Untamed Chambers - Heard the Method Man remix which is pretty sloppy and overall Kan imo doesn't have much of a feel for remixing but sometimes the results are interesting. Curious to hear if any of the other tracks are better. http://www.discogs.com/Kankick-Untamed-C...

Re: Global Phlowtations Artist Committee – 98' Unheard
Nice one, JankZ. Global Phlowtations were featured in URB's Next 100 issue from Mar/Apr. 98. The lineup as listed in the magazine is Zagu, Adlyb, Sach, Mikah 9, Okito, Ricansun, Amiuswi, Nairb, Dillo, Shakeesha and Ordinary People; all these cats are Good Life/Project Blowed vets. I haven't listened...

Dude totally stood out in his field, props. If anyone has the December 1994 Rap Pages (LA Underground on the cover- Ganjah K, E-Rule, Ras Kass, SIN, Aceyalone), Matt Doo did the illustration at the back for Ras' Remain AnonymouS lyrics. Of course, I have the issue except for that page. Figures. I re...

Definitely fux wit Red Rock West. John Dahl directed two other movies centering on toxic femme fatales- Kill Me Again and The Last Seduction, both worth checking out but neither of which I like as much. Would def recommend bumping A Hell Of A Woman to the top of that list, might be my favorite by JT...

Re: Mapping Out the Stretch & Bobbito Show (with Tape Rips)
Yo fellas, the last part of this show is one of the Steve/nobs rips. It was a major find bc the Fugees appearance was totally forgotten, overshadowed by Nas, Big L and Stretch's beat. Also because Bob misremembered in the Ego Trip book that Lauryn wasn't there (she was of course). I have it somewher...

Haha, some critic put Misty Beethoven on his Top 10 all-time Sight & Sound list, so you may want to check it out anyway. But then this dude also put Salo on top. Gonna check out Camille.

"Legit porn" is unchartered waters for me but I've heard of Metzger's rep as a true auteur in any genre. Eventually want to get to his stuff, only saw a cable-friendly version of The Punishment of Anne as a horny teen. Coincidentally a repertory here will be showing a "Porn Noir" program: http://ant...

Re: obscure album cuts (from not so obscure artists)
The Roots - Mellow My Man good pick, best Roots track imo. wish they'd done more stuff like this, in that kind of melodic live jazz style. After DYWM?! they kind of lost that jazzy element I have to take it back. I forgot Mellow My Man was actually a single. But yeah, their post-DYWM r&b vibe was c...

Nice article. Felt the same way Hager felt when I first saw it. Sure, the story/script is laughable but for every thing they got wrong they still retained a lot of authenticity, you can't get that level of participation from the legends in one movie.
