Re: KRS-One/BDP Tribute
I don't know, man. I've become a pretty huge REM fan in recent years, no homo. The hits always held me back, but then I dove in and found out that they got like 100 good songs. I'm all up in the unreleased tracks and bootlegs and what not. Not sure if I'm just getting old (about to turn 40), but I l...

Re: Favorite Pharoahe Monch songs
Pharoahe Monch is arguably my favorite MC of all time, but 1998 is the cut-off point. The Simply II Positive demos were recorded in the late 80s, so he was great for roughly a decade - you can't ask for much more than that. Guest appearances prior to 1999 were few and far between. It's a shame that ...

While not exclusively anti-rock, this Krs line from "I Get Wrecked" is very relevant. I can't hear nothing but rap, do not force me. Re: Lists, in this economy? (best of 2017)
I haven't seen anything mentioned in this thread. I've just been watching John Carpenter movies and what have you. I did however run a search on "Brawl In Cell Block 99" on the strength of the title, and to my surprise and disgust I see that it stars Vince Vaughn, the biggest herb in Hollywood aside...

Too slimy and grimey. I am a prude by nature, so this was not up my alley. It was up Blastmaster's alley. Lots of things are up Blastmaster's alley. Dildos, cucumbers, 18 inch flashlights, etc.
Lots of good actors, though.

3. Common Sense

5. Andre
The cut off point for me is like 97/98. I never really got into MF Doom, although the beats are outstanding.

DJ Premier, The RZA, and Marley Marl.
Yeah, boring.
I'll take one late 80s Curt Cazal beat over the combined discographies of Kanye West and probably like 10 other faggots on the list.
My top 20 is pretty much represented here. One glaring omission would be K-Def.

Re: How Many Mics?
In 1997, Pharoahe Monch was the greatest MC in the world imo, so this album is a classic as far as I'm concerned. The quality of his lyrics would take a precipitous drop shortly thereafter, but his prodigious talents as displayed on Equinox are something to behold. This is my go-to OK album because ...

Re: Soul In The Hole vs. Above The Rim
Common's High Expectations is a tremendous song from an era in which I believe he peaked (96-98). The rest of the Soul In The Hole soundtrack is garbage. Even the Organized Konfusion track sucks, and they were on fire right around that time. Above The Rim is beneath my contempt. Voted Soul In The Ho...

Re: Internet/Backpack/Indie Hip-Hop Movement
This is the Buck 65 era. He must have laid down at least a hundred classic tracks between 1996 and 2001. The Bob Dylan of hip hop. A true legend if there ever was one. I might have gone 97-02, because there were still a lot of great albums coming out in 96 - Jeru, Chino XL, Bush Babees, The Roots, T...

I'll tell you who I have an unhealthy love for: Keith Murray. His 92-95 catalog is ridiculous. Just the way he pronounced words. Fuckin' love that guy.
Redman was an awesome hype man on one of Keith's freestyles, very Lord Digga-esque.

Re: Redman vs. Posdnous
I was a freshman in high school when Redman's first album came out, and I must have listened to that tape a thousand times. Same deal with the second album. By the time I was getting ready to enter college, I had deemed his entire catalog to be unlistenable. It is what it is, I offer no apologies.

Went with Braggin Writes, even though J-Live's discography bores me these days. Take Em To War has the illest Axelrod sample I've ever heard, and I do like MF Grimm, but that song is comic relief. It was hard to take in with a straight face when I was a teenager, and it ain't getting much easier now...

Front-to-back classic. I think most people prefer album #3, but this was always my favorite. Black Thought peaked on tracks like What Goes On and Distortion To Static.
I went away from The Roots for a long time because I was so gayed out by anything okayplayer-related.

I love this album to the point where I pretty much stopped reading The Source after they gave it a 3 Mic review. I'd almost equate it with finding out that someone is an anti-vaxxer.
