I just expected them to outclass teams, outplay them to the ridiculous extent that they often did in the Euros. From what I recall, that just hasn't happened, in any match. After a poor start, I thought they'd get up and running, but they depended on a terrible error in judgement by the Chilean goal...

Spain have been utterly underwhelming for the majority of this tournament, and are fortunate to still be in it. I hope Germany beats them in the next match.

No need to re-state 'no beef'. Obviously not, it's just a football chat. As I said, no I couldn't really complain about the starting selection. I would have maybe gone with Lennon on the right instead or at least brought him on at some point, but hey. We still created a number of chances and scored ...

VideoKilledThe, I agree with some of what you're saying, particularly as England got exposed to counterattacks by having fullbacks who prioritised attacking over defending, but that's obvious. Something clearly went terribly wrong, because Germany killed us. But your idea seems to be that it was all...

We could have stood a chance before that: we were attacking well, keeping posession and definitely were the better team going in at half time. No you weren't, despite having less possession the Germans always looked the more dangerous side. You really have to question why Capello selected the midfi...

I hope so. It can go either way. They are not better than us.  Germany were clearly better today, but England might have played the best match of their tourney. They controlled the ball a ton. They gave up a super soft first goal off the goal kick though. That said, how can that second...

No of course not, but English people need a scapegoat for our poor performances. To be honest, I don't think Capello's been great, but when your whole team is idly walking around the pitch and passing the ball to the other team more than their own players, there's only so much you can do.

Yeah, basically. I hope to God we beat Slovenia and go through, but based on this performance, we just don't deserve to be in this Cup anymore.

Worst England performance I can recall. We had an unfortunate result against the USA, but we didn't play badly. This is just inexcuseable. I don't even know what to do with myself. I'm depressed, four years of waiting for this?

Agreed. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON? WHY IS HESKEY STILL ON THE FIELD?

This is incredibly depressing to watch. Though apparently Defoe is ready to come on, which is slightly, slightly encouraging.

By the way, in what world are we living if Heskey is a starter for the English? It's a combination with Rooney that when effective, works very well. He's big and strong, a good passer, wins a lot of headers and holds the ball up well, allowing Rooney to go ahead of him and play a bit more of an adv...

Logic doesn't get in the way of The Sun publishing a story. When we got robbed by a Swiss ref in Euro 04 there were calls for us to boycott Toblerone, among other things.

Yes, America were getting fouled all over the place. If that happened to England there would be calls in the tabloids for the whole country to boycott Mali.

Decent result from an English perspective. 0-0 would have been better, but hey. Now hopefully we should beat Algeria tonight, and if we pull off a win against Slovenia next week we'll top the group. However, we only want to do that if Germany step back up and top their group, or we'd still end up fa...
