How about you tell us what other equipment you have? I mean, from what we know, you can have a beat playing one one turntable, scratch on the other, connect some cables from the mixer to something that records. If your beat's on your computer, you'd be connecting your line-out from your computer to ...

I'm not sure what you mean when you say the disc isn't bootable, because you seem to indicate that your only barrier is telling the laptop to boot from it. I have a suggestion. I don't know if there is a BIOS mode per se, but on the PPC models there's single user mode, open firmware mode, and some o...

well for starters hopefully you can make sure the Onyx work by plugging it into your Mac, going to System Preferences>Sound, and making sure it shows up as an input device. not sure if you need to select it here to get to it in Ableton, because Ableton has a place to do this as well, but shit it doe...

I might have sidestepped your question. I think you can do all the sequencing from the MPC. But all the shit about audio I said still holds I think. But if you're connecting MPC's MIDI Outs to the other two devices' MIDI In, set the other two to Slave (or Control Off or whatever it is), then that ma...

I've not used MIDI for anything more complicated than firing some notes, but I think you're not able to do what you want on your MPC. If the MPC has only MIDI inputs, you can send notes from the ASR and the Motif to the MPC, but that's all they are, is notes, and the MPC would have to use those note...

not reading mp3's deads my want for it a little bit... does it really? i figured anyone who's worked in digital pro audio long enough would a) be used to converting and working in WAV or AIFF, and also b) trust unencoded sound more. unencoded means higher quality sound, and less processor power ded...

well, because i'm disorganized, i've gotten used to opening Reason and using just about anything to monitor: iPod headphones, low-wattage desktop speakers, whatever. not reliable for shaping a track sonically, but sometimes if you're sequencing it's sufficient to know what goes where. so vibewise i'...

weapons of choice are sony 7506s. they're at my homegirl's house because i loaned them to her so she could enjoy all the adult films i burned for her without disturbing her grade-school-aged son. should have left the sony 700DJs there instead. i don't like mixing down with them, because of the decep...

ok... to me it would seem like you could use drum sounds... which is suppose are samples, but you would have to program all the drums yourself, basically preventing the use of drum loops that are already sampled. is that what yall are talking about? we can go on about this because really it's a dis...

i'm very interested in having absolutely no sampled material in this battle, counting drum breaks as samples. MIDI and synth kits and that's all and that's it. you'd have to be really nice on the pads to get the same sound, and that's what's intriguing to me. mainly i wanna hear what people can do t...

shit is a bit fast though. your layers do their damn thing. that breakdown in the middle was appropriate. all rhythmic elements are gravy on their own, though i don't feel they're perfect for this beat as a whole. namely, the rolls/fills don't feel like they should be followed by claps, and the clap...

people swear by the Mbox USB interface, saying USB is sufficient for their recording needs, but i wouldn't trust anything less than FireWire 400 for recording. FireWire is not only faster in terms of sustained data rates, but also less prone to data loss. i've seen a few benchmarks that say as much,...

Can't imagine what you'd need the drivers for, though. Router software is usually just an interface that does what is already built into Windows and OS X. Every router I've seen can be managed from a web browser, and client-side management (i.e. configuring your computer) is, as I said, a feature of...

First of all, welcome aboard the Reason train. If you don't have Recycle yet, you should definitely check it out as well because it works wonders for chopping up samples for use in Reason. Propellerhead's products are great. That beat is dope. the mix is very professional and the drums knock. The d...
