Re: New Sean Price album August 8th

there's like an ep's worth of really solid Sean Price material here with good production, but it's padded with a bunch of rappers who either I didn't enjoy at all or they just don't sound good alongside him. not mad at it but doubt I will get much replay out of it beyond 1-2 standout tracks

that's not an entirely inaccurate take on it but Pleasantville and cyberpunk are both a net positive so aside from goobers it's not quite the insult you're intending either

Re: New Sean Price album August 8th

So apparently they started this album before Sean P died, and then it took years of drama to finish it. Some of the verses may have been mined for that Duck Down album. Supposedly it's meant to be the definitive Sean P posthumous album but who knows.... you can tell the producer padded some of this ...

Re: True Detective Seaon 3

Def into it for Ali and Dorf, but first few eps felt like they're trying to re-capture the magic of S1 while stripping away most of most of Pizza's eccentricities because of the bad reactions to S2. Which is kinda lame, especially since the story is not that compelling and they're relying too much o...

Re: 20 years: an appreciation of 1999 movies

my memory for what came out in what year sucks but just spitballing on things that caught my eye from a google search for 1999 - Iron Giant - still great, maybe classic Galaxy Quest - still great Audition - classic Boondock Saints - at this point its kinda hard to take it seriously but this is also ...

Re: 20 years: an appreciation of 1999 movies

my take on the Matrix is that like Breathless it's an undeniably important and influential moment in film history, and like Star Wars despite the individual ingredients involved being highly derivative the sum of them does add up to something pretty original and even iconic in its own right. but imo...

Re: Netflix originals thread

Started the new Punisher season, pretty good so far but it's 13eps so there's no way it won't sag at some point. The first few eps play like the writers might have given up on trying to ask the tough questions about vets and PTSD and are simplifying him to be more of a generic gruff antihero, but ma...

https://www.gq.com/story/andre-3000-outkast-gq-style-interview?verso=trueic. As André explains to GQ, he doesn’t feel connected to today’s musical landscape: I hate going to the studio. So what’s got me going once again is me being excited about other artists. I’ve been working on producing a few a...

I'm taking this thing slow and still have a few eps left but Lyle is def a dark horse candidate for favorite character. Such a great sympathetic dumbass, almost wish there was a Coen-ish/noir-ish ironic twist somewhere in the end that lets him turn the tables.

he's actually really grown on me over the last year. not enough to enjoy him as a full solo artist but enough to not scoff at his collabs with Mach. a collection of all their collab tracks that didn't make it to the dollar menu series or their other tapes together actually exists but it's not labele...

Re: 2018 Album of The Year

I won't argue that it's a very consistent album but I also don't see a huge difference in quality between this and some of his other good solo releases. I think the brevity and focus had more to do with the positive reaction than anything, Pusha isn't doing anything here that he hasn't done elsewhere.

Re: 2018 Album of The Year

. Overall, I think Daytona is the best album of the year, which is odd considering it's barely 20 minutes long. Aside from the list, others below were also solid. I'm perpetually very amused by Pusha dropping what's essentially a very polished version of a Griselda EP and it becoming the most accla...

The Favourite - I was cool with Dogtooth, hated The Lobster and didn't bother with Sacred Deer, but damn I loved the hell out of this. Starts of as a hilariously acerbic rivalry, then gets at something deeper and darker about love, vanity and social climbing that builds to a pretty devastating fina...

Re: What movie did you watch today?

Venom - Hilariously bad but does occasionally manage to be legitimately funny on purpose too. Looks a little better once you realize it has more in common with The Mask than with anything in the modern MCU films, not entirely sure if the film makers intended that but it's true nonetheless. Uncle Dr...

Re: Roc Marciano thread

really curious to give this a whirl, always enjoyed him as a producer but never thought his beats would make a good standalone instrumental album. they make sense more in symbiosis with his lyrics than something that can stand up on its own. but we'll see http://www.adultswim.com/music/roc-marciano/...
