Re: R.I.P. Pumpkinhead

He had some dope music, but definitely a guy who's impact was way beyond just the music he made. One of the great connectors/ambassadors of underground rap in NYC in the late 90's especially.

Re: Roc Marciano thread

yeah I don't know what he's up to, kind of weird. There was that interview where he was like "i'm gonna do an album a month for the next sixth months" which he didn't do thankfully, but it would be great to get another full solo album.

Seriously, he said that.

Re: RJD2 Q&A

He's just released a new album with a guy called Sugar Tongue Slim. Had a listen earlier and it's not great. Pretty middle of the road sounding. Shame, because I revisited Table Scraps and he has some joints on there which have aged really well. Interview here. Seems to take himself extremely serio...

Re: The Man Who Broke the Music Business

Remember when you could message other users through Napster and see who was downloading stuff off you? I recall some guy from the US calling me a Eurofag and cancelling my download of a Brooklyn Academy mixtape. Thankfully we've moved on a long way since the ignorant attitudes of the early 2000s th...

Re: Your Top 5

I think this gets harder and harder over time, not because there are so many greats, but because everybody who at a certain point has a basically unfuckwitable streak of awesome eventually falls in the shitter. For instance, at one point to me it was undoubtedly Rakim number 1, then there was a poin...

Re: The 50 Most Important Indie Hip-Hop Albums

I'd say on the whole the list is incredibly on point actually - despite my Juggaknots related derailing. Nice work. Another few albums that should've considered careful consideration are probably: Blackalicious - either Melodica or Nia Illogic - Unforeseen Shadows Latryx - Latryx and although I didn...

Re: The 50 Most Important Indie Hip-Hop Albums

Clear Blue Skies and Prince Paul - A Prince Among Thieves. Both of these albums are easily more important than 50-80% of the stuff on this list. Other than that - good list. Clear Blue Skies is a great record but it never dropped on time so I don't think it ever had the impact it was meant to. Coul...

Re: The 50 Most Important Indie Hip-Hop Albums

I can't figure out how the hell Rap-A-Lot records gets continuously left off of these list Major label backing, like No Limit and Cash Money. Rawkus and Def Jux did not have that. Priority and Rawkus happened years later. Same with Duck Down. eh, I think that's a slippery slope. Not worth parsing t...

Two really important omissions that are actually NOT FORGIVE level: Clear Blue Skies and Prince Paul - A Prince Among Thieves. Re: The 50 Most Important Indie Hip-Hop Albums

Good list. The Soul Position album is not my favorite release from RJ or Print - so I would've left that off. Also not a huge fan of that Immortal release, but I get it ("importance"). Edan > Rasco (although again I see the importance angle). Violent By Design >>> Pscyho/social, etc The first two J-...

Re: 10 years later: how do you feel about Edan - Beauty and

Personally, I'd hesitate in calling it a classic for some reason. I guess to me it wasn't without it's low points and the rapping is not incredible although it is good. But I do think it's a great album and agree with folks who say "there's really nothing like it." The songs with guests are probably...

Been thinking that too, mainly because the artists with the biggest standout projects from that year, for me at least - billy woods, TREE, Ka, Lil Ugly Mane - all either have already released or will soon be releasing big projects. All we need is a new Roc Marciano album... Definitely. Plus for me ...
