Re: new Kevin Gates is HARD!!

The lack of discussion of this mixtape on this board is insane. Other than the Freddie Gibbs/Madlib album this has gotten the most play from me this year in terms of new releases.

And here I thought "motorola, over the shoulder, boulder, and colder" were the only words Raekwon used in his raps.

This album is way better than I expected. Might be his best solo, but then again I hate most of his solo work, except about half of Internal Affairs.

Re: The Infamous Mobb Deep LP (double disc)

nice release. And, no I haven't really delved into more than a couple songs of the new shit.

For the record as far as Prodigy solo releases:

Return of the Mac
HNIC 1
Albert Einstein
HNIC 2

And none of those ranks as high as the third (even arguably 4th) best Mobb Deep album.

Re: Wu-Tang Clan - A Better Tomorrow (2013 Album)

I don't think it's a bad idea honestly, especially if you're Cilvaringz and your alternative sources of dispersing such a collaboration are probably releasing it for free via Datpiff.com, going the bandcamp route, or maybe getting a marginal independent label to put it out so that it can sell a coup...

Re: XXL Freshmen 2014 - The 10th Spot

It was the same way last year. Honestly, it's been a while since they really tried to "break" new artists this way. It's basically just a way of promoting newer major label nominees, I'm sure money is exchanged in terms of advertising packages at a minimum. Pretty laughable.

Re: Jay Electronica "better in tune w the infinite" ft. LaTo

In the context of the album, this would be barely passable filler. In the context of a random soundcloud loosie where I can't stop myself from reading the idiotic comments of mindless stans saying things like "GOD HAS SPOKEN," and "PRAISE DUH TA ALLAH" and "THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS I'VE EVER...

I'm pretty sure both Vordul and G-Dep are actually homeless at this point. If not literally, they would probably at least meet the criteria of McKinney-Vento.

Rarely do I think there's an album where the retail version is clearly inferior to the Itunes deluxe version, but this is a case where I think that argument is pretty easy to make.

Re: Redman

Honestly, it boils down to the production he started to use in the later years, imo. He didnt need to use Erick Sermon everytime but some of those he had were not hittin' past a certain point. It is that, but it's also the company he keeps. He could get by on some relatively cheap production if he ...

Re: Black Hippy thread (Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, etc.)

"The Purge" is horrible, and no serious rapper should ever put Tyler on his album (I know plenty have, but they should stop. He's like the Shawn Wigs to Mindbender's Ghostface at this point). Other than that I have no real complaints other than I wouldn't start an album off with two songs as so-so a...

^^ nah, I don't think so. Aside from the first three albums, I'm actually a pretty big Doc's Da Name 2000 fan. Its the rappers' lament. Act all big ballin playa boss like in your songs and videos but then take the shame of claiming you're broke when the child support people come calling. #prayforLuda to be fair, this is a little different than the circumstances of many rappers. There are tons of rappers who...

Shot in the dark, because I've never really seen this material online, but I did have it in my hand at one point so I know it exists. Very nice thread. Big shout out to Thereallex for the work that went into this. I will say that while I am a big Teflon fan (such a great voice) that he shines best alongside Danze & Fame and over the right types of production. His solo joint was OK, but only really had one standout track. But, when...

Hard to say where this will lead, but I always like 50 pre-Aftermath. That's not to say "his best shit was before he got signed," type thing, but I prefer 50 when he's not trying to make songs for the radio. He's had plenty of good album cuts, but you could easily make a best of his mixtape material...
