Re: De La Soul to release entire catalog for free on Feb 14t
If you don’t know De La Soul’s music yet because you are a young person then that’s fine but you probably don’t want to start here. Grab either the proper Buhloone or maybe De La Soul Is Dead because they are both perfect ( 3 Ft. hasn’t aged quite as well imo and most of their later shit is just so...

Re: Common ft Ab-Soul 'Made In Black America' (prod No ID)
Ab-Soul has been nice. I have the same problem with him that some folks here had with Kendrick (maybe still do). I find it hard to listen to his voice over the course of a full album. But he has a lot of really good individual songs and verses.

I'd rather watch a fictionalized short in which the members of Onyx rob the Snowgoons than listen to this album.

Cilvaringz is supposedly working with RZA to release a major Wu album: Ok look. Here's where we at and where it's going. As I mentioned before, I was working on a revolutionary plan for this album. Not necessarily musically, but more the marketing and release. I wanted this album to do more than ju...

People You Wish Hadn't Started Rapping?
Not thinking so much about rappers who just suck here, as artists you liked in one capacity who decided at some point to pick up the mic and it's either changed the way you feel about them as artists slightly, lead to them wasting great beats on themselves as opposed to more talented artists, or it ...

had to vote common. on a stage, no one else on that list can fuck with him. This is the first time I've heard this, is Com well known as great performer? He's definitely got a pretty good live show. Often with a band, usually breakdances, freestyles, lot of energy, etc. That said, this list is not ...

Re: Black Hippy thread (Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, etc.)
yeah I didn't mean he wasn't a good rapper and obviously the other TDE members have refined their craft over the last several years. I just more so meant that the album is remarkably good to me, and a lot of it has to do with the production, but there really aren't any glaring weaknesses.

Agree with the person who says there isn't exactly a stand out track. But the more I listen to it, the more I like it as a whole. Dude stays consistent on every track and every single beat is smooth. He can definitely spit. He's not in Kendrick or Schoolboy's class and even a slight cut below Ab So...

Re: the Eminem/Slaughterhouse battle rap show is real
Guess never thought about it in context of a battle rap setting. It's not that you get in "trouble," it's that any major avenue that plays music (radio, tv, even larger internet formats, plays at a baseball or basketball game) those venues/stations have to pay royalties, get clearances, etc. So the...

I think you're underselling it. It's pretty bad. Maybe the title was overselling, but the funnier parts to me is them basking in the awkwardness of it for the next 30 minutes after the interview. In terms of the actual gaffe it's more than he did 2-3 set-ups of the gaffe when the end game was comple...

Re: Young Thug Is Majestic
Bloody Jay killed me with the RL Stine verse. I think people may be ignoring the tape based on the shitty ass cover art to some degree. The title isn't helping it either. I did a triple take when it first dropped because I figured it had to be some different low budg do-it-yourself Young Thug from ...

Don't know if this should have it's own thread, but it made my day so I thought I'd share:

I don't mean to spoil, but it's one of the worst interview implosions I've ever heard from an interviewer.

Re: Macklemore won all the Grammys
Wasn't surprised at all, in fact knew it would happen going in. Look, "the Grammy's" isn't some monolithic institution with an anti-black agenda, it's just a bunch of people voting about music that they never listen to, and it's flaws expand way beyond selecting the right rap album each year (someth...

yeah, his ambitions are different too. Tree really wants to be huge, and thinks he should be. A lot of the rappers they've worked with are comfortable staying in their own lane/niche.
