but which acts would you consider truly "commercially successful" that are using beat scene style beats? (TPAB aside)

Re: Black Hippy thread (Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, etc.)

it's crazy how influential flying lotus (via dilla) has become I think this is one of the most cemented observations to come from this record and everything that's happened in the past few years. There is this widening gap between the further exploration of this lo-fidelity, jazz-influenced, no-hol...

Re: Black Hippy thread (Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, etc.)

there is a lot going on in this record. nothing stuck out upon first listen (first time i heard GKMC it was apparent that "don't kill my vibe" was THE song after one listen), it's going to take a while to process. first impression is that it's big in scope, and an accomplishment as far as album cons...

Re: the jinx

Durst killed at least 1 of these people, could've put out a hit on victims 1 and/or 3 . huh? he admitted in court to killing and dismembering victim 3 himself. The handwriting is still the most damning evidence. and like i was saying earlier, hypothetically that could be defended if they weave some...

Re: the jinx

gratifying ending. i feel like if they just left him mic'd up dude would keep forgetting and eventually just kill someone else on a hot lav. the fact there is still a juror in texas that thinks he's just "the unluckiest man alive" makes me think a conviction is still harder than it looks (because it...

well yeah...i personally have no doubt that he killed all the people he is accused of killing. that seems obvious as fuck to any rational human being. at this point i'm watching this show going "okay, hopefully they find something that proves beyond reasonable doubt he killed these people so he can ...

Re: the jinx

i low key fell asleep for part of it, but my girl was saying "he was only on trial for murder, not for mutilating a body, and in texas if the killing is deemed self defense then it isn't murder." forgive me if that sounds obvious if you watched the whole episode. it's insane to me that you can chop ...

HBO true crime docu-series about Robert Durst, part of one of the wealthiest fams in NY, whom many believe has gotten away with 3 murders.

EDM: yeah need to be more persistent about watching Oliver's show, liked every episode i've seen and loved him as daily show guest host, i just forget to seek his show out online. also agree with what you said about colbert being funny but often patronizing to guests. even when you know he actually ...

Re: Jon Stewart leaving the daily show...

a major component to the show is guests and i don't see them booking the same names without somebody with cred to back it up. personally that's the segment of the show i care least about. perhaps a third of the authors they have are interesting, the actors promoting movies...don't care, most of the...

Re: Jon Stewart leaving the daily show...

would imagine both of them are very much above that position.

gotta remember, stewart and colbert both built themselves on those shows (stewart was doing okay before, but wasn't a huge celeb by any means). i think they'll end up going with a small name that can grow into the slot.

they're saying it'll continue on. i just hope it's not the white guy they have as a pundit on the show these days, i find him a bit grating. been watching the daily show since it started with craig kilborn, and i have to admit i didn't like jon stewart for the part when he got it in 99, and it took ...
