RhkoyRe1ZJU I think it’s good to start with names and go from there when you go back through the year of Hip Hop you liked. It helps to narrow things down easier and remember gems. Here’s some artists that come to mind: Apathy O.C. RJ Payne Elzhi AWAR Kool G Rap & 38 Spesh Sadat X & El Da Sensei Ma...

T2Fi2k2jn5I These NYC Projects ain't no joke! I remember the piss stench, graffiti-covered hallways and crack vials outside in the grass. People who lived in them coming to high school with all types of wild stories. Diamond D once again with a killer riff, borrowed from funky Detroit guitarist Den...

A common question I find myself wanting to ask most of my 80's & 90's legends: will you be coming out with instrumental LP versions of your classic albums?

Re: so we made a commercial show
Listening now, sounds good! I appreciate this era MUCH more now in retrospect now that we've reached this drugged-out mumble era of commercial rap. I remember getting tired of the bling and over saturation of wealth at times, but at least there was a nice balance between that and the indie culture a...

He was a cool sideman and personality to me, I didn't take him seriously as an MC but his presence fit well throughout Supreme Clientele. I keep "Good Times" in rotation with him, Rae & Ghost til this day. I don't hold him in anywhere near that high regard. I just like his guest appearances on those...

I love the 2-note Blues guitar riff from Diamond's "Check One Two", taken from the Blues/Rock classic album by Mike Bloomfield & Al Kooper. Diamond also used another 1-note at the start of the song above for House Of Pain's "Word Is Bond".

Nice choices everybody. I love "Down" by The Beatnuts from their Take It Or Squeeze It album. Can't imagine what the song would be without Eric Krasno's guitar riffs. Some more bluesy stuff: De La Soul's "Mille" & K-Solo's "Long Live The Fugitive" which both flip the same Funkadelic sample. I love t...

^ cosign! I just previewed the album at iTunes. I guess people who like the trap sound they might like it, but I'm not one of those people. Re: What The Fuck Happened To Hip Hop?
I feel DMC's pain in terms of the negative impact of this generation's "hip Hop" on young adults who don't know any better. For all the music I don't like in the mainstream, I've learned not to complain but just let it bee and either ignore it or look at it as general entertainment. For instance, I ...

Absolutely. Fudge Pudge too, the way that Jazz piano kicks in at the start I'll never forget. Glad they put out the instrumental version of the Stress album recently.Comedy Quaddafi wrote:Stress by OK has many of my favorite jazzy tracks. Black Sunday, Keep It Koming, Let's Organize and more.

Re: your fav hip-hop/jazz influenced tracks
Yeah Digable, ATCQ and Guru are the main suspects for me too. I've been hearing some cool covers of "Cool Like Dat" by different musicians in recent years. One of the baddest upright Jazz bass loops imo: Eric B & Rakim's Don't Sweat The Technique. They killed it on a number of songs with the blatant...

Re: Cypress Hill - "Elephants On Acid" (NEW ALBUM)
The Indian sounds gave me an odd feeling on the first listen, it feels out of place with what I'm used to hearing from Cypress but I guess their reinventing themselves. A few months ago, I heard Black Milk say he's producing the whole next Cypress Hill LP. I guess this is his work? Indian samples ar...

I haven't sat down and listened to a whole Jada project in a long while, but I think he's done good in the guest verses I've heard from him recently. Great mix and discussion as always. I was glad to discover that N.E.R.D. & Native Tongues collabo, never heard that one before. I agree on the point about De La's 2nd LP having too many skits. When I listened to it repeatedly at the age of 12, I didn't mind the skits though. They were entertaining t...

Re: Dopest 97-04 radio joints?
Best year of Dipset could vary from person to person. Me personally I prefer their time on The Roc. Songs like I Really Mean It, Oh Boy etc. I feel like their output started to get foolish when they started breaking the crew up into smaller factions. I 'm a big fan of Cam's diss to 50 "Curtis", the ...

Yeah, there's some that I find myself revisiting now that bring back good memories. I know some songs I might of real quick in the past due to it getting overplayed on radio/video. The G-Unit era was cool. I prefer the earlier period of them being hot, like Stunt 101, I'm So Fly, the whole Get Rich ...

One of my favorite film review channels did a Friday the 13th marathon with commentaries for parts 1 through 4. The actor Larry Zerner who played the fat guy with an afro from part 3 steps in as a guest during that commentary.
