Listened to the album in its entirety today. Wasn't really disappointed as I haven't expected much from him after his last three releases. Felt no different after hearing this. Like a few of the songs. The more albums he makes the less standout tracks he tends to have IMO.

Re: In Retrospect: Ether

Back in elementary school when one boy didn't want to really fight a kid talking shit, his friends would instigation with by pushing the boy into the other kid in hopes they'd fight. Well that boy is Nas on Ether. In his mind, he knew he had to do something because everybody was laughing at him but...

Still getting into this album, but I play Cold Facts a lot.

"Grew up with good-spirited goons, now I only see them in tombs or visiting rooms."

Really dope line.

Unlike a lot of other artists from the '80s, Slick Rick's style has not changed much.

I also don't get the whole "ahead of its time" comments. That album came out in 2000 and in 11 years no one of any value has tried to duplicate it and if anyone has tried, no one has paid attention to it. If it was ahead of its time, I guess rap stil hasn't caught up yet. Except for two of the most...

Foundation was pretty weak, but Rude Bastard and Forever and Always were two of my favorite songs from '09.

I've never checked any of the Snowgoons albums, but like someone else said, they sound like a knockoff version of Stoupe

I"m a big fan of Action Bronson, but I don't think he'll be a great emcee in the long run. I feel he doesn't construct verses too well and uses the stream of consciousness style too extremely. He definitely is at his best when he's featured on tracks as Ray Lewis and Typhoon Rap show, but on his own...
