Post by Conspiracy »

nah, Roger.

the question is, where's our King Shameek?

cause it's TWIN HYPE 2009 UP IN THIS MOTHERFUCKER :ignore: :ff:

but honestly, he'll probably be on here more than me lately.

I got lots of work to do (a.k.a. love to manifest)

just got back from hosting one of those King of the Dot battles. Shit was PHENOMENAL.

words cannot express the mindbending insanity of the grand finale.

an MC named MISTA CONSPIRACY (I am not making this up) battled this guy named Oz. And how blown was my skull when MISTA CONSPIRACY came up to me and said "Mindbender, I'm a huge fan of your work. Your music is amazing... super creative stuff." I was really humbled, this guy was genuinely kind, instantly. But he seemed a bit... odd. That doesn't scare me, of course (takes one to know one) but still, this Mista Conspiracy guy was apparently a big deal to have in the KOTD battle. I don't know the whole history, but I'll learn now.

I started my introduction as a judge to the battle saying "this is Mindbender Supreme of the Supreme Being Unit, sending peace to the God Conspiracy, the original one. This is interesting..."

then I saw what was one of the most MIND FUCKING BLOWING battles of my god damn life. I was folded in two, bent over laughing, and was wiping tears of comedy out my eyes. Shit was PHENOMENALLY AWESOME on some true life Rabbit vs. Poppa Doc shit.

When you see this battle... YOU. WILL. DIE. LAUGHING.

:thebest: level moment of internet greatness, I shit you NOT.

don't believe me? here's MISTA CONSPIRACY'S video. Brace yourself.

<object width="320" height="265"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/twbVKRgiFcg&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/twbVKRgiFcg&hl ... 2=0x54abd6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object>

Martin, it's because people up here do hip hop cause they love it.

there are no millionaire rappers in Canada.

if anyone is, Kardinal is. maybe a few producers have done it... them guys who produced '21 Questions' for 50 Cent... Midi Mafia? They were from Ottawa. They probably are rich now. I don't know if they still have that label deal with Atlantic or whatever...

anyhoo... that answers your question. most American rappers do what's popular to try and get quick, easy money. That's why most of them suck now.

Canadians mostly are doing what comes natural cause they ain't getting paid much for it so their art isnt influenced by commerce.

Are you suggesting that Canada has a stronger rapper core than the US at this point?

on certain levels, yes I am.

America's population and length of history puts it ahead in certain categories... but pound for pound, our average MC has never been closer to slaying your average MC. And on any given day, I think it could go either way, right now.
People are free to disagree, but you'd have to be aware of what I am to balance your argument fairly. And habit tells me most of you people aren't into educating your opinions further, so... until you prove me otherwise... I've said enough on the subject.

except: EMPIRE's "GET IT" is COMING SUMMER 2009. Wait til this drops, and THEN you'll realize how dope Canadian hip hop is now. :rockout:

As far as Canadians being good MCs? I just came from one of those King of the Dot battles... some of those guys are GREAT. Most of them were sick MCs. Only 3 of them were really amateur...

Ty, don't be a salty little bitch because you are so knuckle-scuffingly ugly that you will never have a stage career. It's not my fault you're fat and repulsive, nor is it the Canadian taxpayer's. You want to remove respect from the equation? Let's go. You are a joke rapper, at best. To my knowledge, you haven't even accomplished a quarter of what Chuggo has done, much less Classified or Buck 65, so don't bother trying to talk about my life. Even if I stopped today, I'm good where I am in Canadian rap history, and you know it personally. Unless you Jared your Subway-sucking ass, you will remain the forgotten, drunken, slovenly, flatulent expulsion of craptacular comedy that you always have been... so don't fear. Your future in hip hop is secure. HOLD IT DOWN like the bile your mother feels in her second stomach when you try to kiss her, ha ha. You're the best, man. You're the future of Canadian rap. I can't wait til we collaborate. Please validate my dreams. Maybe I'll get signed to Aftermath after I get a song done with you. I know I owe so much of my historic and amazing rap life to YOU, Ty. I hereby acknowledge this, in public.

mindbender please don't be so defensive, it is a bad look. excuse my ignorance if you have never taken advantage of a government arts grant directly, but know that your employers most certainly have. every canadian alt weekly is taxpayer funded at some level. even successful for-profits like Vice regularly suckle at the engorged teat of the canadian taxpayer.

I don't think so. And not because the members of :phila: are too close-minded to accept it. :phila: are not industry tastemakers, clearly. If that was the case DJ Premier would be making albums with Nas, and the MF DOOM/Ghosface sessions would've been picked up and released by Interscope, while Drake would be a homeless male prostitute roaming the streets of Montreal lookin' for a fix. We're not all-powerful.

Just because many of us are too "close-minded" to listen to a lot of Canadian rap (I don't personally think that's true, I think everybody on here has listened to some Canadian rap at some point and most of us have made a subjective decision that we think most of it is not for us) doesn't mean that's the case elsewhere. If Drake's current popularity proves anything it's that someone :phila: as a community generally considers to be a "faggy canadian" of the highest calibre can be successful in the general US market.

If you're talking about in some 2001 Scribble Jam battle I MADE TEH BETTER DISS ABOUT UR GIRL SWALLOWING MY JIZZ OFF BEAT OVER "TRIED BY 12" sort of way, then you might be right. But that's not because your rappers are better, it's because that's not where our rappers heads are at anymore. That's not the scene anymore. But don't think for a second that means :ohcanada:-ian rappers can make better records.

I mean if you really think that's the case, and you have evidence to support that, which we don't have access to here on :phila:. Then put your weight up. I do mixes weekly of the stuff that hits the blogosphere that I feel, which you've admitted you enjoy. Do the same for :ohcanada: rap and let people judge. And you don't have to just base it off what people on :phila: think. You can post that shit wherever you like and see what the response is. If you don't think you can come up with 24 or so :ohcanada: songs from a week that's fine, do a monthly mix and put it up against any one of my weekly mixes. Do it for :ohcanada: hip hop.

I have been the recipient of some grants, yes. I ain't dissing them, you are. My career does not live, nor die on them. And don't play stupid just cause you're talking to stupid people. "Canada, get some god damn self-respect/ and while you're at it, run and get me some cheesecake" (I love how some of those F.A.I.L. lyrics resonate through time, ha ha.)

And as a Canadian, try not to sound like such a Benedict Arnold while you're sleeping with the enemy  . We are lucky to have a system that is set up to invest in the necessary value that the arts culture provides its citizenry. No civilization on earth existed without art. America could learn from Canada that way. Why are you dissing it? Sure, Videofact and some of them organizations are archaic, corrupt, and need an overhaul, but any artist who uses them is not a welfare case. Eternia has received over $100,000 over the years from them. She knows how to work the system. There's almost NO Black musicians on any major label, so any other avenue that works is good. People ignore what's REALLY the reason why Canadian hip hop hasn't blown up. I know why though. One day, I'll drop a knowledge bomb never known.

In the "white and serious" division: I recently joined an investment firm. Business is the new focus, word to Ras Kass. I got the artist part down. Now it's time to sharpen up the Mindbender Brand. Thanks for your help, gang. Pressure makes diamonds.

Don't start none, won't be none, Ty. I'm a peaceful, loving man. But when attacked, I respond by any means necessary. I'm sure you expected a lot worse from me a long time ago. I'd rather not return the favor you paid me.

And Ty, don't be silly. I owe you nothing. And you actually know I'm more of an artist than many of these fakes in the rap game, American and Canadian. Some of your friends are my fans, and I know this, maan. Stop talking this idiotic shit to these fucking American ignorant listeners  It is a bad look.
You're in Heaven right now, God.
Create the universe you dream of.
