OC & AG - "Oasis" (New Album)

Post by Echo Leader »

Haven't heard much about this yet; anyone else know that this was coming out?

http://www.amazon.com/Oasis-OC-AG/dp/B002M3GPZW

(Sorry, I'm terrible at embedding images.)

Not sure if I'll check it or not. Will probably download. OC is usually really solid but the AG verses that I've heard lately (past 5 or 6 years) leave a lot to be desired. It's got some DITC production on it though (Finesse & Showbiz) and that is never a bad thing.

The whole "Golden-Age duo" album format is really being done to death right now (Ace & Edo, Del & Tame) and seems really hit or miss so far. Hopefully this will be dope and not boring as hell like that A&E album.

Dunno is this is :lastweek:, so mods feel free to :lock: if you gotta.

Well half the album, eight or nine tracks, have been leaked in one form or another over the past year, a lot were on radio shows though. And the retail drops on Tuesday (the twenty fourth).

If you want to hear it before it leaks / before Tuesday, the stream is complete and sounds fine to me.

E. Blaze / E-Blaze has only been around for the second half of this decade and has only been doing D.I.T.C. production for the last couple years. He's Showbiz's new prot

^^^Thanks for the info.
Yeah, I just peeped the streaming album.
I agree, E Blaze is not bad on there at all.
Definitely gonna cop this.

I just wish that if it wasn't Show or Finesse or OG or Buckwild or Diamond,
that they would reach out to the P.Bros.
Those kids killed that "The Gas" album last year.
Did you hear that album, TBS?

Sure man. Yeah you can tell he's goin' for the Show / D.I.T.C. style a bit, tryin' to fit in with the legends. I would prefer the classic D.I. producers rather than this "new" D.I. style of course but I'm not mad that he's on there.

I did, it got a few spins, I should probably revisit it though. It seems to be held in pretty high regard (not just here either) and yet it doesn't stand out that strongly in my mind. I don't remember disliking it at all, I listened to a lot of music last year though. And I've thought about puttin' it on again just from people mentioning it but haven't yet. Which means I'll probably take this as a sign to do so.

Yeah, I can't hate on the kid either. I think a few of the beats are pretty
dope, just from the previews. So that's a pretty good sign.

And yeah, man. I slept on these cats in the past because I heard one of
their records I didn't care too much for. And I saw them in an interview
talking about this "Heavy Bronx" style they were trying to do.
It kind of put me off that they weren't American yet saying they
were trying to emulate the sound. I don't know why this put me off.
I should have thought of it as a good thing.
Anyways, I think if you gave certain tracks another listen, you might
dig it. But I was a big Money Boss Players fan, so hearing them on
"Cold World" on there, just made me love the album.

Album's decent...nothing special but consistently solid all the way through.

I knew I recognized the sample for "Alpha Males". Dope shit.
Here's the sample. Also sampled for the Common track below.

Soul Dog - Can't Stop Loving You

OC & AG - Alpha Males
http://www.zshare.net/audio/68754536c78e9395/

Common - Hungry
<object width="320" height="265"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/47kNum4fxjk&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/47kNum4fxjk&hl ... 2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object>

That sample also sounds a helluva lot like this, too(but is NOT):
<object width="320" height="265"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/G0k_Dcd2Np8&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/G0k_Dcd2Np8&hl ... 2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object>

It does have a WU sound to it, though. That's what I always thought when
I heard that Common song.
But here's the real Gza sample(and a million other songs sampled this):
<object width="320" height="265"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gq-iBjPiySo&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gq-iBjPiySo&hl ... 2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object>

Interesting. But how do you mean that? Just generally?
Because, IMO, OC and AG are both impeccable on the mic and pretty
inimitable with their rhyme schemes.
Any kind of beat I've heard AG on, he burned it down. He's mad versatile
with the flows.
And OC is just legendary with the mouthpiece, IMO. :pause:

Do you think there would be any particular reasons why they wouldn't
work with them? I would think this would basically be the epitome of
the types of emcees the P.Bros would want to work with.

the P Bros. would jump at the opportunity to work with OC or A.G. man....

they did that "The Gas" album with the likes of Milano who is D.I.T.C. affiliated, so I'd bet they'd be open to working them two....

Both OC & AG are extremely underrated emcees.

However, they are also kind of understated and plainly spoken in their style of rap, meaning that they don't usually transcend underwhelming production.

This is good because at least they don't play themselves with stupid vocal gimmicks and concentrate on what matters most but it also means that if they choose lackluster beats the album suffers.
