New Producer Series - Remix a Philaflava Rapper

Post by Philaflava »

It's been a few years. Any interest in doing another compilation? 1 track from each producer. Either a remix compilation or straight instrumentals.

I haven't given up on my philaflava series EP. I have about six beats out to different rappers on the site, it's just no one has done anything with them.

Instead of straight beats why don't we do a featured remix series. Maybe we can agree on breathing life into some old tracks? Or each producer submits one remix?

it's 2010. I'm not trying to breathe life into anything that needs life, especially remixes. let's do something new, and by new, I don't mean a compilation full of shitty beats.

rappers, I tell ya. Scen's got done, cause it was on the producers to make it happen. When the responsibility falls on the emcee, not much happens (at least in the case of message board compilations).

it's not like instrumentals are a novel concept, i just think 8 tracks of instrumentals won't get too many spins.

i like the remix idea.

Remixes will get the attention. A CD full of beats won't. Don't forget some rappers, labels do check this forum and some may have more motivation to check this project if it featured a track of theirs or one of their label mates? Just saying...

Ill let you guys figure it out.

I like the idea of a remix compilation too, as it's something we haven't tried yet.

I'll definitely submit something.

I would be down with a remix. It would be cool to something like that.

I'd gladly donate a remix or two.

Off topic: Also, who do I see about a possible name change? Or do I need to register a new account?

When should we start submitting? And to who?

Also, should we look at any artists in particular that have a relationship with PF? Intuition, Slug, iCON, Alaska, etc... hell, even some of Sound Labs' own. Or people who've hosted contests in the past...

if you're gonna do this it should have some kinda theme

eg. remix a single album or a single artist etc

We should remix a Philaflavian's album (with their blessing). Get the studio acapellas, do it proper. Just a question of what rapper would be willing to participate.

And if none of the likely candidates are fond of that idea, then we'll just do what AWAE suggested.

Yeah, man, if any of them would be willing to participate, I think it would be a nice in-house operation. I can almost assume off the bat that Ardy would be down since he's an active member of the board as it is, but it'd be cool if he got a chance to participate as one of the producers on the project if somebody else was willing to contribute material. Maybe throw a feeler out in M2C and see if anybody with a recently released project, an upcoming project, or an extensive discography would be down.

So, at this point, it looks like this project is shaping up to be a collection of remixes of assorted tracks from assorted PF rappers. It's generating some interest amongst the rappers in M2C, and while I know some of the producer chimed in and already tried to claim dibs on certain rappers, who's down to contribute from the Sound Lab community?

I'll assume anybody who's already replied with the green light in this thread is on board, so if there's anybody else who wants to get in who hasn't posted in this thread or the one in M2C, now's the time to sound off.

So far, we've got
AWAE
Ardamus
Random Sample
Purify
Red Scare
MindState
Renessis
Myself

Maybe dirtybird and cornsnake?

Rappers who are willing to participate include
Keen
Ardamus
Praverb
Ayentee
Versive

We'll let these two threads build for a couple days before we start making decisions. I know Purify wants to remix an Alaska track, AWAE wants to do a Self track, and I want to do an Ardamus track.

I'll produce a remix. Count me in.

BPMs would definitely help, no matter what keen says.:). If they don't have the bpms, we should get the original so we can calculate tempo.

i'm down. would like a keen, ome, self track, preferably. but either way, I'm interested. bpms are crucial. this isn't a contest, so having to determine bpms would be an unnecessary obstacle, imo.

Once we get all the players in the place to be we're going to need to narrow it down a bit. If everyone picks at random, we might get 5 keen tracks, 3 ayentee, and 4 ardamus, etc..

This is just an obstacle that I see coming up that we can overcome easily with proper communication.

Artist/Producer bank.

One by one we eliminate and that will avoid any dupes.
