i'd like to see a bit more than purely anecdotal evidence but a truth to it wouldn't be too surprising. there's a much stronger cultural homogeneity over there compared to here, and homophobia is one of those traditions that gets passed down all too easily. my grandpops actually marched in an anti-gay rally decades ago though he's since grown much more accepting. Whereas here someone spouting truly hateful shit gets shamed by the larger majority, down there it gets tossed around much more loosely and even from the women, although i haven't heard too much evidence of rhetoric translating in to violence. you don't need to be too insightful to know sexuality plays a strong role in the latino identity.

I think a big part of that is because it is guys committing most of the violent hate crimes, but it is basically ingrained in us from the time we can walk that we aren't supposed to hit a woman. So even though there is a lot of prejudice against lesbians from both sexes, it doesn't escalate enough to make it in the news often, at least in the U.S. And let's face it, the easy availability of girl on girl porn on the internet has to help in some way . I had a good friend from my neighborhood that came out senior year of highschool, and I saw a lot of prejudice she dealt with.
