Willie Evans Jr - Introducin'

Post by GhostDog »

Does this album get Philaflava's stamp of approval? I've had this on constant repeat this weak. One of the best things I've heard all year

I know the dude sounds a lot a like Doom, I don't know if it's intentional or not, but damn, this ish is raw. Beastly production, and lyricism.

"Take 2", and "Fisbawdup" are both :ohsh: tracks. "Fisbawup" sounds like a lost track of Madvillian in my humble opinion.

Only complaint is that is only 35 minutes, but there is absolutely no filler on this.

I played a show with Willie a year or so ago and he had one of the weirdest but most dope shows I've ever seen. He did this thing where he projected a video on the wall of himself rapping and he did a back and forth song playing off the video. Shit was great. Gets my approval.

^Yeah, I've seen him live in 2009 and he did that.

But, then again, I saw Lifesavas do that back in 2004, also.

Not as cool when they can actually do a back and forth track, seeing as how they're a duo. But yeah, the Savas are great too.

Yeah I dig it. Better solo than in the group Asamov IMO.

What did Asamov used to call themselves? I remembered they changed it from something else.

Willie stays on the grind. Props.

Yeah, I think I slept on the Asamov joint. I listened to it recently. Dope album. I can't remember if I've heard the album before.

Evan's solo ish is definitely on another level. The Dumbtron project with Paten Locke is dope as well. They've just done a few tracks. Hopefully they'll be a full album.

Been impressed with Evans Jr. since the "Communication" album that was released by Rawkus in '07.

Just discovered he did a instrumental remake mixtape of Aloe Blacc's "Good Things". Jumping on this ASAP.

His production on the Perceptionists album and the few songs he's done with Lif have been great. I need to get this.

It is. It's get even better with multiple listens. This is the front runner for hip-hop album of the year for me.

Does anyone know if WEJ and Paten Locke are planning to do a full blown Dumbtron project at any point?

Hard to argue at this point, but I'm not going to get overwhelmed with the hype. I wanna see how I feel about this album a month or so from now. I just hope Gloss keeps it in mind when he does the year end polls.

The joint that grabbed my attention is "A$amov." That sample is crazy, it has to be from a video game. I'm thinking maybe Double Dragon or some shit. I also like how the first dude addresses the name change issue and their beef with the author of "I, Robot."

New Willie Evans Jr. interview:

http://www.coolehmag.com/wordpress/?p=1797

The album is definitely in my top 3-5 for the year so far. Having a hard time putting it above the Serengeti or Danny Brown, but that could change. I need to see how they all sound a few months from now. And then there is still the Action Bronson record to factor in.
