The closest thing to a "nerd rapper" in there is Blu...I'm gonna need some convincing here.
Excluding one or two... those are most definitely nerds. They may not rap about nerd shit but they live nerd shit.

I won't bother even disputing whatever it is that you are saying here, but I would really enjoy seeing who the "one or two" you would exclude are.

By Nerd Rap you mean shit like MC Chris, MC Lars, and etc., then they still have a fan base. My homeboy is touring with one of his partners that hooked up a tour with MC Chris and MC Lars. They're not my shit but apparently they got some sort of following.

Your homey knows/is Adam Warrock?

Back when he actually made non comic book music I tried to turn people here onto him, but saddly he just burried himself into somewhat boring niche music. Seems like it's working out for him, but to me it's a bit of a waste.

That wave is actually considered nerdcore.

most people i know who used to be heavy into nerd-rap now:
a. obsessed with grindtime/kotd/etc battles
b. mostly listen to electronic music (dubstep/future bass)
c. listen to "everything" like a real hipster (prob really into r&b right now)

For the record I've never sat down and listend to any nerdcore (except for the Star Wars bouny hunter songs by MC Chris), however, regrettably, I have sat through a pretty horrible documentary about this shit.

And by deeper I meant more steeped in nerddom.

My homeboy knows Adam Warrock. I think I remembered when you did that. But anyway, here's my homeboy's music:

<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/t8iHsmNe_Tc?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/t8iHsmNe_Tc?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bgwDOhlJnZ0?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bgwDOhlJnZ0?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

K Mudrock from Panacea (my homeboy) linked up with MegaRan and put out that project. They ended up getting a track with MC Lars on one of his projects I think. Anyways, MegaRan has a big ass following in that scene so, they got link up with MC Chris on this tour. K Murdock hit me back and was like "yo, you were right.....the seats were sold out and etc." on the first night they were on tour. Here's the tour just in case. 44 cities.

i think many of the folks that listen to the new internet rappers used to listen to doom for the same reasons. us backpacky folks assumed it was for like lyrical ability or some shit. but it wasnt. its the same weirdo voyeur escapism that makes people find a lot of this new shit fascinating imo. when doom disappeared i think it left a space for a lot of this madness.

i also think there's a lot of people making interesting rap music these days..but the ones that have pulled away from the pack usually have an interesting look, someone who's good with a camera, and somebody else who's good at the internet on their team. i think you could start a succesful indie imprint out of your bathroom tomorrow if you have those three things and music that is decent.

it could be said that just about every rapper mentioned in the thread only matters on the internet...but it could also be said that shit only matters if it matters on the internet...as long as hipster is the the dominating cultural identity for young city folk, the line between real and real on the internet is going to be weird. its hard to think of many indie rappers who are succesful in real life and arent good at the internet unless they were already kinda famous before myspace.

the moral of the story once again..is get good at the internet.

fuck you for not reading my long post. im on tour and im the guy that wakes up before everybody. and i think about this sorta shit a lot.

I see you point, but still Frontalot?

Open Mike Eagle isnt my favorite rap name, but it doesnt automatically make me think youre possibly some kid with absolutely no connection to rap making fun of it on the sly either.

agreed on the "weird line" between real and iReal, and i might be missing the point here but should we bother to factor in regional popularity in this conversation at all? some of the dudes COOLHE listed (as well as others he didn't) seemed to use the internet to build a strong regional fan base before reaching for a larger audience (as do a lot of non-nerd rappers like fat trel), whereas a lot of other rappers that try to jump straight to internet ubiquity are a lot less well received, critically and/or commercially ... fuckin wale.
