Do you all post the best battles or just any battle when they are posted?

The reason I ask is you all are feeding me stuff that I've never heard of and don't know where to get and I'm wondering if it's the cream of the crop or what...

Thanks.

Ahh ok.

This is like learning Euro soccer for the first time (so many leagues, so many players). What the fuck do I do in this thread? It's kind of confusing.

There's got to be a system to these leagues and I'm not getting it so far.

School me real quick. Much appreciated.

Alrighty then.

It's probably easiest to divide it into Smack/URL vs Other.

The Smack/URL battles are "street", most of the rappers are black, the focus is on "bars", gun talk, word play acting hard and having an aggressive delivery. They have long rounds too, usually 3 mins.

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ou77snUb7Qg?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ou77snUb7Qg?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

I'm not really a fan of this style/format. :omgracist: Magneto can tell you more about good Smack battles to check out.

The other style is King of the Dot (Canada), Grind Time (USA), Don't Flop (UK) etc. etc. This may also be known as nerd rap. There's a lot of whites involved. Emphasis is on personal attacks, jokes, different styles etc. etc. A lot of it is in jokes and references so I guess it can be difficult for an outsider to "get" a lot of the linesat times. Grind Time kinda started the most recent incarnation of this style but is now all but dead, KOTD puts on much better events these days. Battlers from these leagues battle in all of the leagues these days, and a few have battled on Smack (and vice versa).

Not sure how to explain any better than that. I just have my list of battlers that I check for, and I'll check any battle by them.

Off the top of the dome...

Real Deal
24/7
Bender
Ness Lee
Illmaculate
360
Dirt
Uno Lavoz
The Saurus
Passwurdz
Loe Pesci

are people who I currently fucks with.

And here's a random assortment of what I think are top quality battles (for different reasons).

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1z1Nre_QG-Q?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1z1Nre_QG-Q?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Dirt is arguably my favourite battle rapper. His schemes are ridiculous and it fucking slays me when he will spend an entire round just going off about some physical flaw of the other person. Round 1 here cracks me up every time.

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qI084beDVWA?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qI084beDVWA?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

An early Dirt battle. Ruthless.

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GUyilKpmhAM?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GUyilKpmhAM?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Real Deal is also one of the best to do it. In a way he's quite similar to Dirt. This battle is a few years old.

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Pg_dsFehW4w?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Pg_dsFehW4w?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
The Saurus was always seen as the GOAT of this scene up until a few years ago. Real Deal went off in this.

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3eXHIZ_ru50?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3eXHIZ_ru50?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
Both these guys are great and are less "jokey" than the average nerd battler. Their focus is more on wel written bars, even if they're not as personal as others. I guess almost a hyrbid smack/gt style.

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nEChVnCF1ko?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nEChVnCF1ko?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
One of the best smackdowns ever.

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nFfuWQVpim4?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nFfuWQVpim4?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
Uno Lavoz is competely different to all other battlers out there. Just watch and LOL.

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Va2N3qgqojQ?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Va2N3qgqojQ?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
Loe Pesci is one of my favourites, and he's similar to Bender and 24/7 style wise.

Uhh, :didntread:, I'm gonna stop there.

Haha. I'll have to see. I was just wondering if there was an actual method to the madness in these leagues. Is it in tournament form, does a win send someone forward, is there a "regular season/playoffs", or is it more or less random battles with big "championship caliber" match ups, etc.

I don't get how you follow it because there are youtube videos all over the place. It looks like you pick a league and a few battlers that you like and just wait 'till that drops on their site?

I'm looking for some sort of sport ranking/playoff system and that seems to be a mistake.

With that being said, I like Ness Lee and Grind Time West. I tried to follow Grind Time by using their site but I get confused. Maybe it's easier to follow by youtube subscription? :retard:

Definitely follow the youtube subscriptions. And purposely Moolah left out some of the other battle leagues like No Coast, AHAT, and etc. Thats part of the reason why I post everything. The battle rap scene is a growing community and its an interesting scene as far as the differences between the battlers go.

For SMACK/URL rappers, I'd say check out the following emcees:

Calicoe
T-Rex
Yung Ill
X-Factor
Hollow Da Don
Cortez
K-Shine
Aye Verb
Goodz
Tec-9

I'll post some later. Magneto knows that scene better than anyone else would on the real.

Real Deal
24/7
Bender
Ness Lee
Illmaculate

Uno Lavoz
Soul Khan
Loe Pesci

and let me know who I'm sleeping on/underappreciating.

FYI, as of this month, 24/7, Pat Stay, and Fresco retired from battling. 24/7 is good at making music so if he quits, I just want him to keep making dope joints. Pat Stay.....if he's quitting, he should go ahead and puts some music. Fresco quitting I'm too bothered about; the kid's got lyrics but he was never my fav.
