I ask because you are the world's greatest, most influential blogger.

My evidence is very circumstantial there, I very well might be wrong. But I was actually kinda curious how exactly they made the rounds so fast so I asked a few of my blogger acquaintances, all of whom are generally in the loop on these kinds of things and do usually get the mass spam submissions. None of them got it (steadyb didn't either for the little that's worth). I think if they were really spamming hard at least somebody among them should've gotten something about it.multsanta wrote:

Maybe they sent it to only the really really heavily trafficked sites, and everybody else just took it from there. None of the people I asked are on the 2db or fader levels of popularity, so maybe I was just aiming small. But still I don't get the sense that they sent out one of those huge spammed things that bcc'ed 100 blogs like many other kids do. If you google the name of the mixtape it comes back with pages and pages and pages of blogposts, it just seems generally very unlikely they submitted it to all or even most of them.
You obviously have a better view of all this since they probably did submit it to either you directly or one of the places you write for, so please spill the beans

I assume that they don't need to spam the smaller sites because they already have direct access to the big ones. Their manager - err uh spiritual advisor, as per twitter - is a reasonably prominent fashion/music/snapback culture type blogger who is in the circle, so to speak. Blogs for Hypebeast, has been featured by Complex, etc.
Here he is posting a Sennheiser-sponsored promo video for his own artist at Hypebeast. (ETHICS!) http://hypebeast.com/blog/phillipannand ... -the-club/

Whatever. All talk of promotional channels aside, this mixtape is very, very solid.

I don't think any of them would be better off solo, I think the fact that they're actually a rap group and not a crew/klan/collective/gang or collaborative of convenient rap bed fellows is definitely a big part of the appeal here. But who do you think has a horrible voice? Juice? I agree that Meech has a better voice, but Juice is definitely the better emcee on a technical level.ja rule wrote:These guys are alright and all, but anyone else think the ODB lookalike would be better off solo? The other dude's voice is damn near unbearable.
I think Erick the producer is actually the most talented of the group, both because of his production skills, but he's also a pretty solid rapper.

the production on the mixtape actually stood out more than anything else, Ark Elliot turned out to be a minor revelation here, dude did a consistently good job through the whole thing. he's not necessarily a next level genius behind the boards or anything like that, just very proficient in creating a consistent sound that helps carry the mixtape

Definitely agree. I think the most impressive part to me, is that this type of music (dark, brooding, ghoulish) is most strongly associated with dark sample based production (Three 6, Children of the Corn, Gravediggaz, and even in the modern era with Asap Mob and Raider Klan) I honestly can't think of many examples (I'm sure there are some, but they don't come to mind easily) of people being able to successfully create a vibe like that using almost entirely (if not entirely) keyboard/synthesizer production. While I agree that Arc Elliot isn't some kind of next level genius, I think the fact that labels prefer not to deal with samples at all, will make him a sought after commodity for those looking to create this type of vibe going forward.drizzle wrote:the production on the mixtape actually stood out more than anything else, Ark Elliot turned out to be a minor revelation here, dude did a consistently good job through the whole thing. he's not necessarily a next level genius behind the boards or anything like that, just very proficient in creating a consistent sound that helps carry the mixtape

i really do hope he gets more work based off this. i got no problem with him continuing to work with the zombies, but it would be a shame to confine his talent to just them too

The more shit they put out the more I like EA Elliot as a producer. I'd love to see him work with others too
