Had some good runs to RAP Music. C4C hasn't been as good for working out. "Smithereens" just makes me want to do push ups. This new one is going to be good for running.
If El-P's beats could talk they'd sound like Killer Mike.

Still dunno which track is my favorite. Sea Legs, Banana Clipper, Run the Jewels...

Re: Killer Mike and El-P
i like how short it is. too many rappers throw every damn thing on the album with no sense of pacing.
there is good variety in the beats, a few sound similar but it's far from monotonous. more like this album has a sound to it
not feeling el-p's delivery all the time, some of his lines sound like they're delivered not quite properly. these bros have great chemistry though so it's all good.

I agree. I listened to "Patriotism" the other day, and although I still love that joint, its impossible to not notice the flow improvement at the very least.wuk wrote:I feel like El has come a long way as a rapper.
"Get It" is my favorite joint off the album at this point. Im a sucker for the way they used James on it and the verses kill.

Re: Killer Mike and El-P
I'm pretty sure that "thousand words a bar + tons of punch ins" style was a conscious decision, not a byproduct of the fact that he couldn't flow. that was just the style he was going for. same thing with aesop circa labor days/bazooka tooth. The Afronaut wrote:I agree. Re: Killer Mike and El-P
yeah his flow isnt "off" ,that is his style, and it has both improved and sunk into his style better within each release
Re: Killer Mike and El-P
i sorta miss that whole "aesop rapping with himself" vibe labor days had.
Re: Killer Mike and El-P
I really don't, I loved those albums back in the day now I really have a problem getting through them. just aged poorly for me.sleazy_j wrote:i sorta miss that whole "aesop rapping with himself" vibe labor days had.

Re: Killer Mike and El-P
No doubt. I actually loved that style for the production and projects he was on at that time. I bet even he would admit that he's purposely worked on smoothing out his flow over the years though.DLG wrote:I'm pretty sure that "thousand words a bar + tons of punch ins" style was a conscious decision, not a byproduct of the fact that he couldn't flow.

Re: Killer Mike and El-P
WTF @ "smoothing out". Why over complicate the idea that El-P just got a lot fucking better at rapping. Yeah, there's a bit of an intentional style change, but I think that's more about just getting better at being on beat.
Somebody with actual raperist experience should tell me I'm if I'm wrong, but that cramalotottawords style seems a bit easier as you're trying to hit fewer parts of the actual beat.
Funcrusher Plus is a great record, and EL-P's style really works on that record, but it's not really what I'd call great rapping (great writing though). I think his work on this album is pretty much great rapping both in terms of writing and delivery.

Re: Killer Mike and El-P
it was an obvious style choice, he's not cramming a million words into a bar here
Re: Killer Mike and El-P
Way too many people on this here hip-hop discussion board get annoyed when people discuss hip-hop. Fuck off and get over it.
Either way, he's either rapping better or making better choices, but I really like him as an MC now.
Fair- I'd argue that that's a much different beat and one that's maybe easier to rap than most of Funcrusher. (but again, I have no clue about these things)DLG wrote:it was an obvious style choice, he's not cramming a million words into a bar here

Re: Killer Mike and El-P
My point was that it was an intentional choice for El to rap the way he's rapping now. I would argue that even the Juvenile Technique days he was not as good of a rapper as he is today in terms of flow or otherwise, but particularly flow. As Dids pointed out, he's improved.
Re: Killer Mike and El-P
i like this record. overall dope. i'll sleep when you're dead is my fave el-p raps tho & killer mike killed that's life more than most any other song imo
