it said on Wikipedia that "The Last Zulu" has become "A Tribe Called Quest album" instead of a "Q-Tip solo album"Ned Ryerson wrote:either way, Q-Tip. can't wait for the Last Zulu
Pharoahe hasn't ever been wack... but he just hasn't been making the music that most of us want from him lately. 'Desire' has nice singing, but we all wanted lyrical miracles from him around that time, so lots of people were disappointed with it. I know he always wanted to sing since 'Gotta Maintain' on 'Extinction Agenda', and he's obviously got a very nice soulful singing voice. Most people just wanted an album of 'Bring It On' verses, and we still haven't gotten it. But he's making good music.
El-P is probably the guy who wins this argument. I'd even say Boots Riley for the most part. Of course, Atmosphere. Even Jean Grae is still pretty solid, even though her dark energy kinda pushes some people and possibilities away.
I respect what Mos Def has done, even if I haven't liked it all. He's following his heart, and not doing what everyone thinks he should do.
I think technically, Talib Kweli has not fallen off at all and has put out mostly consistent dope hip hop that his fanbase loves since he began. Since most of the culture isn't being smart at all, he seems less relevant, but he's been a part of so many great things in the last few years, quiet as its kept. I still have to hear that "Prisoner of Conscious" album though.
if anything, most of the "backpack rappers" (kids these days... all skinny jeans and fluorescent tees, LOLOL) didn't fall off... THE AUDIENCE FELL THE FUCK OFF.
people who don't like thinking-person's-rap fucked up ey'thang
