I think that review is pretty on point. I'm a huge Atmosphere fan- but this is not a great, or maybe even good record. It's understandable- but it's a bit too much Dad Rap - and that comes out in the production as well.

A few listens in and it's hard to not appreciate the album. Dad rap just means mature rap. You could take Slug off this record and add Black Thought and you'd think it was a Roots album. The production is just fine. The raps, well, they reflect an older person. Can't be rapping about Lucy forever. While I agree, on some tracks it seems "straightforward," tracks like Camera Thief, Arthur's Song, Southsiders, Flicker, Kanye West, Fortunate and the incredible Mrs. Interpret, which to me is very ATCQ influenced highlight this effort.

Sure, I would like more storytelling like Beware but Flicker is as good as it gets on a personal level. It's not the best Atmosphere album, but I don't think anyone expected this one to be better the previous 6 or 7 there has been, but its a damn fine album in the catalog. It deserves multiple listens before passing judgment though.

I dunno. This album has grown on me quicker than any Atmosphere album outside of God Loves Ugly. But I ain't no fancy music doctor what like them learned folk at the pitch forks.

This album is really dope. It's a feel good record, with lots of replay value. The last few Atmosphere LP's have been a tad depressing, and I'm kinda over so I'm glad Slug is too.
