I feel no particular way about Dicky, but I do find it strange that motherfuckers will hate on Drake and then turnaround and praise some other dude who is trying his hardest to rap just like him.

You do understand that a lot of what LD is doing is satirizing Drake, right?

I actually don't care enough to keep defending LD, though I do like that Lemme Freak song. To me it's crystal clear he is, in Lemme Freak at least, making fun of a certain type of modern rap, of which Drake is the defining artist. And if you dig what he's doing, it stands to reason you would dislike Drake and like the guy who is making fun of him. Sorta how if you like Colbert you probably hate Fox News.
He's stated multiple times in interviews that Drake is his favorite rapper. I could see how it comes off like satire, but I think it's more he's taking Drake's over-honest approach and applying it to his own life through a humorous self deprecating angle stylistically.

Nobody said he wasn't a fan, nor would anyone be surprised to hear that he's infact Drake's biggest fan on earth. Most people that like Drake have zero respect or interest in learning about the architects of this thing called hip hop. It's obvious. We're talking about Drake, fellas. That's not the point though.

get out in the world. most people like drake. including rappers you like & respect
I've been more places in the world than you have, kid. You're a canuck. I don't blame you and bender for loving the dude. Not one bit. Why so defensive?

you were just claiming that most people interested/involved in hip hop don't respect or listen to drake.
that is just untrue. he's immensely popular & respected across many demographics
Why is satire so hard for people to understand? Whether this guy likes current rap or not, whether he likes Drake or not, doesn't really matter. He is CLEARLY satirizing a certain brand of Drake-esque hip hop with Lemme Freak. Those jokes aren't at all funny unless they are juxtaposed with that style of rap. That's the only reason why Lemme Freak is funny, because it sounds so much like a song Drake or his clones would make...

Exactly.
It's sort of fitting that a bunch of dudes who think a sing-song rapper who earnestly blathers on about his feelings and girl troubles should be taken seriously, lack the requisite humor to get the joke.

someone called it satire & compared it to stephen colbert.
that suggests lil dicky is being overtly critical of drake, which isn't really the case.
it's a tongue-in-cheek genre parody where most of the humor is derived from his own self-deprecation
ackbar wrote:comparing it to stephen colbert is a false equivalency tho
It's not a great comparison, you're right. My point is it shouldn't be a surprise that people who find Drake's style flawed think that this satire is amusing...
