what is rap if not nostalgic, though?
sampling? pure
Big Pun was probably the best MAINSTREAM, MAJOR LABEL multi-syllable rapper to ever make it out the gutta gutta
he's up there with overall rappers too, but he didn't get as WORD NERDY as some other cats did... shoutout to Rhyme Asylum in UK, their syllable game was SICKKKKKKK

I went to a concert called "Amnesia" 2 weeks ago. 15th year anniversary of a throwback old school celebration they have here in Toronto. Know who was there?Thun wrote:LOL this is the kind of thread I used to parody in 2007.
Melle Mel
Monie Love (for real yo. I saw 'Monie In the Middle' performed this year! )
Lords of the Underground (the way they shoutout dead rappers like GURU and ODB and then big up James Brown originals to introduce 'Funky Child' is actually awesome)
Chip-Fu (RING THE ALARM FTWWWW. all time classic chune)
Greg Nice (You have to be a corpse with no ears to not enjoy DWYCK performed live)
as well as mother. fucking:
SHOCK G ( how the OG Piano Man came out and played 'I Get Around' and did his verse and Money B's verse (I swear I almost rushed the stage to perform Tupac's verses... I know every fucking word) and Shock also did 'Freaks of the Industry' and 'Humpty Dance' {Y NO 'Doowhutchalike' or 'Kiss U Back', ME SO SADLY} but I STILL FUCKING SAW SHOCK FUCKING G FUCKING PERFORM THIS YEAR, FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY FUCK YESSSSS
AND I say all this to say: because, obviously, I was the guy front and center of the show, screaming every. fucking. word. to every single song performed by Digital Underground's god... at the end of the show... Shock G came to the front... and said: "Does anyone want to remember tonight? I hope you all had a good time. But I'm going to help someone remember this night forever, by giving them a souvenir..." and then... AND THENNNN: he gently tossed HIS HUMPTY HUMP WITH BIG NOSE GLASSES IN THE AIR... directly into MY outstreched and eternally grateful hands!!!
Yes. The Mindbender Hip Hop Museum is now in possession of one of these:
also, SPECIAL ED performed 'The Mission' and 'I Got It Made'. IF THAT BASSLINE DOESN'T MAKE YOU SMILE EVERY TIME... YOU'VE LOST THAT LOVING FEELING.
Life is not quite a linear excursion from birth to death, Roger. It is a cycle. Sometimes it is a spiral ascending, or a drain descending, or a flat circle, just spinning round and round, over and over, with the youth just doing the same dumb shit the elders did. If you remembered what Q-Tip told ya on 'Excursions', you'd take comfort in that
