The album with Stoupe was wellproduced but verses were copy-pasted on. I like the first song but he doesn't sound good on the second.

Looking forward to hear the album but my expectations are low. The beats will be dope even if Canibus is in recitation-mode.

I'm a big fan of that Stoupe album, probably Bis' best imo. Who cares how they made it? If it sounds good, it sounds good.

The vocals are mixed weird. Sounds more copy-pasted than the Stoupe shit.

Remember the time Canibus dissed Hov tho?

Bronze Nazareth is so fuckin dope. He's a top 5 favorite producer of all time for me. This is an auto cop, not even going to preview any songs.

Canibus used to be raw as fuck in the late 90s early 2000s, then he just got weird. He should've stuck to vicious battle rap and dope punchlines like on all his radio freestyles. There was a time when I thought he was one of the best MCs. He got all scientifical in his raps in an overdone way. The only good album he has ever made is Rip the Jacker. 2000 BC is mundane to me.

which is when 2000BC was recorded

which is when rip the jacker was copy-pasted into stoupe's inbox.

imo the scientifical vs punchlines is a false dichotomy. canibus's appeal has always been saying some crazy shit that makes you :ohsh: whether it's scientific or visceral

whether it's "I'll punch you so hard i make your shoulders touch" or "the canibus is an animal with a mechanical mandible" (that one from a freestyle in the late 90s btw)

2000BC is aggressive punchline rap shoehorned into an album. every verse on there sounds like a radio freestyle. some of them even are. talking about scientifical: on rip the jacker's best song bis is rapping about stephen gould.

2000BC > mic club > rip the jacker

& the rest is more or less skippable

This collection of verses and freestyles is better than any of the albums of course.

Agree with Darth on the false dichotomy. And Mic Club was pretty good.
No way I'd rank that above Rip the Jacker though.

For me, it's

Rip the Jacker
2000 BC
Mic Club
For Whom the Beat Tolls

^nah 2000BC works better, mostly because of the format. it's telling that this includes several tracks from his first and second albums.

but yeah you can't get a good read on canibus's career without hearing guest verses & radio freestyles. some of his dopest shit ever is on radio freestyles eg "i'm sicker than, infected women and men/ my style's so raw i could get aids without stickin it in"

i have a similar collection to this that someone on this board -- i think req -- up'd a while ago. i'll upload when i get home tonight. it's mostly verses from pre-album era to the radio freestyles he dropped to promote 2000BC. missing some crazy radio verses from the mic club to RTJ era (eg the "yale freestyle" -- i really want to find this).

til then

Canibus' beat selection has always been poor. Matter of fact, I would argue that it is horrid.

I agree what you all are saying about his lyrics, Darth specifically. For me, I just saw a gradual decline, that's all. I'm by no means a huge fan and analyze all his shit, I just hear what I hear. I own Can-I-Bus, 2000 BC (weak production is my complaint), Mic Club, Rip the Jacker, Melatonin Magik, and C of Tranquility. I find them all to be fairly boring, other than RTJ and some tracks here and there.

This is Canibus at his pinnacle.

^dope shit. i think this is on the compilation that CQ linked.
aeokq wrote:Canibus' beat selection has always been poor. Matter of fact, I would argue that it is horrid.
yeah he's comparable to nas, who has gone on record saying that he doesn't want star producers (ie premier) to overshadow the verses SMH...

beats have never been bis's strong point but to me the recipe for a successful canibus album is not dope beats. it's anything with hard drums that don't get in the way of the punchlines. and it's not like 2000BC has terrible production... it has heatmakerz, ty phyffe, beatnuts. imo it's the best album canibus is capable of making.

Initial reaction is that this is okay, far from amazing though. Production is good, but a step down from what I would expect from Bronze. Lacks the definitive banger. May grow on me. Canibus still raps about shit that makes no sense, yet there is some tangible pronounced content in there as well. 7.75/10
