Once your favorite rapper

Post by Philaflava »

This list is comprised of emcees that once were the heavy favorite among many of us. Some have created masterpieces and then pieces of shit.

Who on this list can you say was either once your favorite or if none, then at least the artists who you liked a lot at one time. Some may look at this as the 'who fell the hardest,' but I'm sure you get my point.

I'm sure I won't cover everyone's picks, so if there is an abundance of missed names, we'll just created poll #2.

i think this breaks down to ice cube if you were a big fan of rap music in 1992 and eminem if you didn't start being a real fan until a couple years later.

i put eminem. once my favorite, now his new stuff has tarnished my opinion of his old stuff.

It was between Nas and Em for me. I picked em, but the Eminem show and encore are some of the worst pieces of music my ears have ever heard.
I wish he would do shit like back in the SSLP where he had creative and witty lines and a couple tracks like Rock Bottom where he spits some real shit.

i disagree.
1987-1991, chuck d with krs a close second.
1991-1997 krs.
1997-1999 el-p/canibus
1999-2001 eminem/canibus
2000-2002 aesop/canibus

but that's just me. ice cube was so dope from 1988-1995, definately a contender for a longevity list, but was never my favorite emcee.

they've all made pieces of shit since, but eminem gets the prize for the award winning dump he just took. canibus, el-p and aesop will still make brilliant music again.... one day.

Ice cube is pretty much all you need

Post by Conspiracy »

I voted for Eminem tho cuz of "American Psycho" and "365" and his 'it's only fair to warn....i was born with a set of horns' verse.
He is a god, but he is also a fallen angel to the temptations of pussy, money and silly comedy [where you can be a total buffoon and nothing really matters].

Ice Cube is TRULY of a far higher quality than everybody on that list other that Chuck D. He should be the richest MC in the west coast...

Ras Kass is really good, for making 'Soul On Ice'. The Diamond D remix was KILLER!!!!!!!!!

OK then Q-Tip also has high quality and good quantity plus some stamina/longevity in his shit. if he is still doing that Tribe reunion. And Snoop is too too fucking dope, especially with ALL THEM ALBUMS he has dropped. DAMN, Snoop....... word.

I went with Cube because AMW and DC are 2 of the most pressing, hard-hitting albums of all time (with the latter being one of the best things music has ever done). To go from that to shit like "We be Clubbin'" is like driving off the side of the Grand fuckin' Canyon. Eminem was good, but never Ice Cube good. Chuck D is still dope (There's a Poison Going On was mad underrated) but has also never strayed from what got him to where he is today.

I also think you have to have more than one dope album under your belt to gain this title (a la Ras Kass and Eminem)

Prodigy. I used to love almost every song he did, now I struggle to find one I like.

A couple years later? So somebody who started becoming a "serious" fan of hip hop in 94/95 is likely to have considered Eminem their favorite rapper at one time? Uhhhh...

Don't you mean somebody who started listening to rap in '97 or '98? And I assume you're referring to yourself there.

Ice Cube got me listening to hip-hop. Dopest MC there was in the late 80's early 90's. Even his early acting roles were dope. Now he's doing shit commercial music, sequels, and family movies. What happened to the angriest motherfucker who ever put words to wax? I don't know, but I miss him a lot.

interesting poll. i was gonna go with cube but then realized that even when i was bumpin him i wouldn't have said he was my favourite rapper when asked as i would've still went with Chuck D or Rakim or KRS ONE.

i notice people keep mention Chuck but i don't see him on the list.

so i guess i won't vote.
