"Hip Hop over Spa Music"
Once upon a time, maybe 3-4 years ago this site was all over some music that was described by the naysayers as "rap over music you'd hear at the spa." Pretty sure it was west coast or pacific northwest and for the life of me I can't think of who the fuck they are, but remember that I liked them. I believe the main dudes we were hype over was a duo and their beats sounded like some Tibetan self help gong spacey music. I've exhausted my google abilities and turn to the fine people of PF. Thank you!

Fuck, that's it. Thanks Drizz. "Cloud Rap" is apparently the sub-genre.

that sound was more influential than people give it credit for, unfortunately many products of that influence are fucking dire

Yeah, I don't even know what made me think of it other than remembering that I dug the fuck out of it. After relistening last night, still do. Thanks for the other names to check out. Weird and probably wrong observation but I've been going back through some of the indie shit that created boards like this, anticon, deep puddle, etc. and a lot of the production and rap styles are prevalent as fuck in folks like Kendrick, Joey Bada$$ etc. I'm sure there is no direct correlation, I'm even more sure I'm wrong, but if you listen to DoseOne's Civilization and then listen to Earl or some shit, they sound a lot alike.
Re: "Hip Hop over Spa Music"
This isn't cloud rap. It's yacht rap. But it fits that description (rap over music you'd hear at the spa) and we were super into it back then too.

Perhaps, but I'm yet to hear a Cloud Rap song that knocks as hard as Lockjaw, pause.drizzle wrote:Lockjaw is cloud rap as fuck
