definitely loving the rap approaches and am super curious as to how these new songs will mesh into the live sets they do now

the production is making me feel funny. i like some of the beats a lot and some do feel limited by the live band sound.

i think its the first de la record that definitely wasnt intended for me if that makes sense. but i also dont quite know who its intended for

Had the misfortune of listening to the deluxe edition. Ironically, Pain feat. Snoop was my only fave cut and the one song worth salvaging from the whole album.

You've bought an album on vinyl that you haven't heard yet and are positive it will disappoint you ? Good work.

Also, upgrade your car stereo.
I know as a whole the album will be disappointing but I do know there will be various joints I'll like and want to spin in mixes and on my radio show.

Why do I need to upgrade my car stereo???

Observations on second listen:

I can probably do without "Drawn" and "Nosed Up."

The skits are fine though I wish i knew who was acting in them.

I liked the Teenage Fanclub collab with De La in Judgement Night, so "Lord Intended" sounds pretty stellar to these ears.

Hearing Usher is reassuring, perhaps because it is not Justin Timberlake.

"Snoopies" is fantastic but it feels like I am liking two entirely different songs.

If there were ever a rap group to have a perfect track record (or close to it) for strong finishes to an album, De La would certainly be a contender for that claim.

Did anyone here on :phila: donate to their Kickstarter?

For me, nothin beats the sound of a CD in the car. I don't want to have to plug in my phone or an iPod. No fuckin thanks cuz it's just not the same. *shrugs*

I highly doubt they spent even 50 k on this record. And if they really spent 600k on the album (ducktales from them in my opinion) then they have a severe lack of business sense and money management.

I would not doubt it for one second, they each took home 100K from that budget and then the rest went into production and promo. Think about it, do you honestly think they paid Snoop his 75K fee for that shit? Usher his? This was a friends and favor kinda project. It baffles me why shit like God It didn't make the album. That is the De La I wanted to hear.

Regardless if you love it or hate it, they did something right.

its the climate not the album. you must have sunk your 401K into this project the way you champion it.

I understand you don't like the album because Prince Paul didn't appear on it and fart during a skit but given the "climate" you're referring to, it is still impressive. Whether you like it or not. They could've easily not have made any news on the charts or even gotten recognition by their fanbase. With that said, the numbers didn't lie on kickstarter and nor did it with them doing this on Billboard. Just sayin.....they did do something right.

The chart thing is cool but not entirely surprising, presumably the people who pushed this up the charts are the same ones who donated the 600k. Scarcity of new material probably works in their favor too, and just simple curiosity. I wonder if streaming counted here, that could make a big difference.

Curious to see how long it stays on the chart. It could be like BvS, big opening followed by an immediate decline. The responses have been very mixed.

That chart is all over the place - Drake, G-Eazy, Dolph, Thugger, the Hamilton soundtrack, that dumbass RZA + white guy album... I don't even know what the fuck Futuristic is. Good to see Gates still on there though

I mean, it won't chart forever as we know and, yes, comedian Russell Peters donated a grip of money. But fuck it, it worked. How many groups do we know from previous eras were able to chart like this in any fashion? I don't follow what Billboard does but I think downplaying it like its not something significant at the very least is bullshit.

Wow, this album is bad. smh

I will only spin 2-3 joints... Royalty Capes, Property Of Spitkicker.com (feat. Roc Marciano) and maybe Nosed Up. I kinda like the joint with Estelle & Pete Rock, but yeah. Some of them songs are fuckin TERRIBLE!! Jfc.

Honestly though, if I heard the joint with 2Chainz in the Club I wouldn't be mad. If that makes sense. haha *shrugs*

And WTF is wrong with them NOT including the two early leaks featuring RZA and Nas??? Shame on them... smfh

God It would have been the best song on the album if it was included.

i will say tho, having that song with that the Wu-Tang interview in it would've been dope on the album. i agree with that.

Wanted to like it, but I can't. Heard the Snoop joint on Ebro last week or whatever and was really indifferent Rest of the album didn't change my opinion one way or another. Saying I am disappointed means I had an expectation to begin with. Life goes on...

Too clean sounding to me. That cowboy song sounds like it's from Prairie Home Companion featuring Garrison Keillor.

Then again I liked some ones with features like Roc Marci and 2 Chainz. I need to listen again but I wasn't impressed overall

Finally got around to this and liked it a lot. Not a big De La fan in general so wasn't pumped for this as much as some others on here. Probably reason why I liked it a lot more than others on here. Royalty Capes and the track with Roc were the best.

Interesting choice for which track to make into a music video...

Nicely shot, at least.

De La's new album to be the first Grammy nominated album that was crowdfunded.
Still....they must be doing something right.
