I know that you feel a need to point this out in every single rhyme I post, going so far in the past to claim that words that have been rhymed on countless well known and repeated songs by the likes of Rakim and Run DMC don't rhyme, so I'm gonna drop a little science on ya. It's called an accent - people in different parts of the country speak differently. In cali, they say "Waaaaaaaaterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr", but in the northeast in urban areas people say something that sounds more like "wuttah" and for brother it comes out more like "brudda." It's just a fact of life you might have to get accustomed to.

well i just think a lot of cats, from all regions, use that shit as a crutch...but especially i notice it in the east coast cuz they'll make some words rhyme in one song using one pronunciation and then go right ahead in the next song and pronounce the same word differently to make it rhyme there...

i dunno, im partial to the black thought style of just inventing pronunciations creatively to make things rhyme.

Racquetball: I agree, some rappers, particularly Nas, will play with pronounciation quite a bit. I happen to think the way he does it is brilliant at times, sounds great, and pays homage to the various ways that people in the northeast pronounce things.

As far as the way I write, I like to be authentic with it - i see no purpose in conforming to some standard newscaster prnounciation when writing a rap. You may not realize it, but most every crew from cali that i've ever heard rhymes words that would never ever ever ever come off in a freestyle cipher in new york but what are they supposed to do, rap in the queen's english?
