Re: Spark Master Tape
Thank you. I actually enjoy SMT more so after listening to both projects and that uncalled bullshit will ruin the discussion.Piff Tannen wrote:lets save the LUM vs SMT debate for another day, its not gonna do anything but turn this thread into a gay

SMT is very good, but LUM is always much better.
Re: Spark Master Tape
Maybe I'm crazy but I greatly prefer SMT to LUM. Like someone said earlier, more polished and I like his rapping way more.

Re: Spark Master Tape
LUM is so-so as a rapper, he def has bars, but I think he's hands down the best new producer to emerge over the last several years. He's versatile as fuck and I haven't heard one wack beat from him since I first heard Bust a Sag.
Maybe he's more entertaining to me because he's not really tip-toeing and trying to hide behind a persona. He's very openly a white guy from Virginia who simply loves making evil Three Six/Gravediggers type shit and does it very convincingly and uniquely. I mean, he sounds pretty unique considering he's very open about being a regular dude who makes tribute rap in a thug/devil worshipper/hood icon persona just for the love of it.

Re: Spark Master Tape
LUM got beats. he seems to be more creative/inspired with better taste to me as well
neither of the rapping is that great & they're both "personas" at the end of the day tho

lets say SMT was from Tel Aviv. Would that give him a "hood pass"
for the record Ugly Mane >>> for all the previous reasons state but mostly because he makes music that can be played over and over and over.

I blame blast for derailing this shit.
Anyways, back to SMT.
Any date on the next joint dropping?

Ugly Mane >>>>>>> i agree platoon's production is much more polished, but i think LUM is going for a raw style. also, agree with whoever said he's one of the best new producers from the past few years but i'd probably include platoon too. both of them, quelle and hot sugar off the top of my head
back on topic, so sleazy's SMT?
don't really care what his race is but i think i'd be disapointed to find out a lot of details at this point. the mysteriousness is part of the appeal. captain murphy was much more interesting before i knew it was flylo. i'm not sure why it makes a difference. i like flying lotus' music, i still like the captain murphy album but for some reason it's not as exciting. it's almost like reading a book and then seeing a movie version and the actor that plays the main character is really good but they aren't how you pictured them while reading.

Re: Spark Master Tape
except the last two or so songs he's released weren't horrorcore or memphis influenced, and he became more disinterested in being a rapper once people became more interested in finding out who the person behind the music was. he even said something about that in his mishka interview, upset that the character couldn't just exist without interest in investigation.DLG wrote:LUM is so-so as a rapper, he def has bars, but I think he's hands down the best new producer to emerge over the last several years. it was around the time of his verse on the "Supasonic" release that he decided to be more "i don't want to be part of this", then from there went to 90s revivalist style.
during the entirety of Playaz Circle, Criminal Hypnosis, and Mista Thug Isolation, the whole style was based off trap beats, weird jazz samples, and gangsta raps tied in with mentions of horror themed topics, like being an actual skeleton. but there wasn't a mention of "fuck the music industry" during any of those albums.
i'd say LUM has more musical influences from different spectrums, and SMT has a more polished product due to having been in pro studios more.
it's a good thing that LUM's original output was so good, because he probably won't ever return to that form. hell, all i know is Ormolycka is dropping his next album as a 7" box set, then it's over.

Re: Spark Master Tape
would you all fuck with SMT over LUM production?
i think that could be cool. though that LUM shit i heard is very dope, i think i prefer SMT when all factors get weighed.
ive been playing SMT every day since i found out about it on here this past spring/summer, so i feel like to some, he also makes music that can be played over and over
