But to me, Dour Candy is part of a heritage that encompasses everything from Public Enemy to post-colonial history to Rock 'n' Roll-era Mekons to DC go-go to Built For Cuban Linx to the Black Arts Movement to Tom Waits to the Hugh Masekela albums that Blockhead samples.

Dour Candy's much different than anything he's released before, but in a good way. He's still bitter, but it's definitely the most accessible album in his discog. The "Pro Wrestling", "Lucre", and "Cuito Canavale" closing is killer. "Gilgamesh" and "Central Park" also stood out on first listen and "Tinseltown" is still the cut. I doubt this will become my favorite woods album, but it's probably the most important album he's made to this point (as far as building a more sustainable career). He said in that interview that he doesn't want to come off like Wes Anderson making the same movie over and over, and he's certainly switched gears successfully with Dour Candy. Blockhead's beats are amazing throughout as well. woods has always had a great ear for beats IMO, but he usually doesn't have this caliber of beats to choose from.

Still need a few more listens to really wrap my head around the album though. The digital lyric book that came with the email should help. Order the sweet colored vinyl/signed CD at http://backwoodzstudioz.com/portfolio/store/

I was overwhelmed by the amount of material Woods had out when I really started listening after noticing this thread last year. For some reason I had it confused at first and thought this guy was someone totally different for the longest. Billy makes really cranial & important music and I'm psyched I decided to get on board with his art even if I wasn't "there from jump".

junodownload.com has mp3 downloads.
and stream of all the album tracks (in two minute increments, that can be altered)
http://www.junodownload.com/products/bi ... 234780-02/

but, amazon.com mp3 album dl is $8.99, when it goes on sale tomorrow.
http://www.amazon.com/Dour-Candy-Explic ... 1&sr=301-4

i'm sure spotify will have it streaming tomorrow.

cd version and mp3 dl version have their own exclusive tracks, #7 "the opposer" vs "poachers". not sure about wax.

Gilgamesh is an all-time favorite woods track and maybe the best beat on an album full of dope beats.

"i-tunes" vs "iTunes".
anyhow, "the opposer" is available on the amazon mp3 link too. and all other digital retailers. and on the spotify stream.
it isn't an iTunes bonus track. it's the MP3 version track. not on the CD.

these retailers are charging out the ass for CD, $16.95 being the cheapest?

watch out on that vinyl, too, it doesn't ship out for another two weeks, but looks dope

I love how Billy's referencing a lot of his old(er) work.
Emmanuel Goldstein, Chalice, maybe Georgia Av, Pompeii, HWAM...

Another great work in his already amazing discography!

Also, that beat change in "Redacted" is amazing!!!

album is amazing. trying to force myself to put other music in the rotation so i don't play this out by the weekend...

sample at the end of Hack about getting hit by a train is terrifying. everytime i listen to the song i get anxious waiting for that to kick in

block, you doing any of the beats on the album with elucid?

album is really dope. I haven't listened to much this year - and this is still sinking in - but this one of the best two or three releases I've heard this year.

I think I got a track on there...if not on the album, on a mixtape related to it. I'm also probably gonna remix something off the album as well.
