JGreen is from ATL, but he has a Memphis type sound. In general though I agree... Memphis has the highest quality standards with Florida second (although mainly Denzel, Simmie, Nell, and Mook on that front).BadLT wrote:This like the best thread about current rappers on this board. That JGreen tape is pretty dope. I have the feeling the Memphis chapter of the Klvn is the one with the highest quality standards in term of production value.

Re: The Official Raider Klan Thread
I think Noz's suggestion of Purrp's lack of desire to rise beyond his influences is pretty inaccurate as far as I can tell - especially when extrapolated to the Klan at large. Sure plenty of Raider Klan artists have sharked semi-obscure tracks from other 90's artists, but as their camp of producers is growing there's a lot more truly original music - or at least modern - going on (most predominantly among the Florida raiders there, but by no means exclusively).
The whole connection to the Memphis underground I think is actually highly overblown in their coverage. It's a component of what they do, obviously a strong influence, but if you listen to 20 of their songs at random from their mixtapes you might find that 3-5 tops that are beat jacks. Earlier on, there was definitely more 90's beatjacking, but I think that was more out of necessity. They liked and gravitated towards a certain type of music and there weren't a lot of producers making 90's "style" beats, so they jacked beats or reused the same loops as their favorites. It's notable that all three of the songs he references are roughly a year old, obviously he found it tougher to make his argument using current examples (not that they aren't there). The Florida Raiders make as much Trap and trillwave (or whatever you call that shit) music as they do "90's" themed g-funk or Memphis "goth" songs. Point is a good chunk of their music would sound completely out of context in the 90's.

i'd definitely say it's a good mix of old meets new. anyhow, in the 90s, less teenagers had access to microphones and beat machines.

Catching a De La Soul is Dead vibe from the cover art, which would be in keeping with his assertion that he's moving in a different direction or at least toward a different sound with this album.B. Ware tha Siniq wrote:

...Of course, if he read that he'd probably complain that I'm trying to put his music in a box. Whatever...
In other Ugly Mane news, he just released the first volume of that comp he mentioned in your interview:
http://liluglymane.bandcamp.com/album/s ... f-motivati
I get the feeling dude is pursuing a Ph.D. on the low.A compilation of first beats/first attempts at making music. Participants were encouraged to record and send in their final products with the promise of being featured on a series a compilations, this being the first. 317 authentic recordings were received. All will be featured.
REAL SHIT.
NOT INTENDED FOR WIMPS.
Any negative commentary involving the music on these compilations will be taken as an admission of your own wimpy-ness, and inability to think outside of a myopic, externally imposed world view.
IF U NOT FEELIN THIS, U DUMB

Re: The Official Raider Klan Thread
i haven't been listening to any Raider Klan up until two days ago when I grabbed the JGREEN comp/mixtape on a whim. Been on repeat listens.
If Purrp ever decides to actually quit, JGREEN would be a good fill-in.

Re: The Official Raider Klan Thread
These guys aren't fuckin' around right now. Don't love this particular Chris Travis song (not really sure why he picked it as I like most of Pizza and Codeine), but the Fway God goes and obviously "Pistol Grip" need to get a video at some point. Nothing on par with that Key Nyata/BSBD shit, but good stuff.
Young God, do you direct the They Shootin' videos? Co-Direct? or are those just guys you always work with? I thought I remembered that was They Shootin' was BSBD. Anyway, whatever the case BSBD videos are really fucking well done.

when that key nyata x bsbd album is coming out? suicide capital is >>>>
Re: The Official Raider Klan Thread
Yeah, They shootin is BSBD videos, but Kingston is the mastermind behind all of them. The project doesn't have a release date yet but a good portion of it is finished. I think we'll release another video before it comes out. One of my favorite songs so far features Ethul Wolf.
