hey, hey, HEY

slow down
IWW is Nas doing an admirable job of co-opting what other greats around him are doing and trying to make it sound genuine.

HHID is Nas being genuine.

That, long story short, is my opinion.

Also, IWW also has some stuff that is just unlistenable ( Nas Is Coming gets the skip treatment the same as Who Killed It does) and If I Ruled The World is actually cornier than Hero if I listen to them both right now. IWW has more desperate grabs for pop hits, more mundane lyrics...maybe it's just me but that album was always just good to me, never great.

If I Ruled The World >>>> Hero
or more specifically
Id rather listen to Lauryn Hill taking a dump than have to hear Keri Hilson's chorus on Hero.

Also, Im one of the few people who doesnt detest 'Who Killed It'. If you view it more as an enlogated skit/interlude, its.. oh fuck it everyone except me hates it.

Thread is destined to end up as 'Illmatic' vs 'It Was Written'

HHID may be Nas being genuine, but I don't think I like Nas being genuine (at least adult Nas). I haven't been able to tolerate any album since God's Son because of the overindulgent preachy-ness. He's just so unlikeable, predictable, isolated, and stuck in the past. Even if I hear a verse I like, just his tone and approach will throw me off.

I don't LOVE It Was Written (I may like Stillmatic and God's Son more depending on which day you ask me) but it still has-
The Message, I Gave You Power, Take It In Blood, Affimative Action, Suspect, and Live N**** Rap. I would take any of those over anything on HHID, and probably a few others as well.

I see what you're saying about him co-opting what others were doing around him, but even a mundane Nas in that era was impressive, even if he was just skill flexing.

I hear you on that but the beat itself actually knocks and Nas went crazy with the verses. I dream of having that a capella to remix or blend that shit.
