Has anyone purchased this from Itunes? People keep saying they bought it there, but I'm still stuck in Pre-Sale where it only downloads The Blacker The Berry.

never listened to a kendrick project from front to back, but i'm hearing a lot of good things about this one.

where should i start? is it even worth it listening to section 80?

i would say section80 is incredible. definitely need that to see the full scope of these three albums.
i still play that album alot.

I managed to snag it. It was showing up as a pre-order directly from apple devices last night, but you it worked directly through iTunes on my computer. At this point, you can find it straight from your local second hand digital spot.

there is a lot going on in this record. nothing stuck out upon first listen (first time i heard GKMC it was apparent that "don't kill my vibe" was THE song after one listen), it's going to take a while to process.

first impression is that it's big in scope, and an accomplishment as far as album construction goes. also not an easy listen, but didn't expect it to be.

listen to GKMC as an intro to kendrick. section80 is a mixtape in every sense of the word. some good joints but not a good listen.

everyone i know thinks money trees is the jam. that and drank. plus for me the double title track duo is unfuckwittable. i super disagree that it even has a the song.

Agreed. That's what I was alluding to in a previous post. Especially with an album like this. It's much better to listen in it's entirety because you can get the wrong sense of certain songs when listening on an individual basis.

this album is a monster. I was impressed by what he used the platform of GKMC to discuss, and even more impressed this time around. Definitely his least "appealing" album yet from a strictly aesthetic, something to throw on and vibe to, perspective but he still manages to make some songs that on their own are more than bumpable.

I agree wholeheartedly while whoever made the Parliament/Funkadelic reference. I see Stankonia too, but actually think it's more listenable on the whole, but lacks the Ms. Jackson or B.O.B.

Album isn't [insert other album here] y'all. This shit is very very original and hard to pin down. Just because it's funky and George Clinton on it doesn't mean it's an Outkast album. Yeah, there's a lot of sonic influence there, undeniably, but "Institutionalized" would have never been on Stankonia, among others. If anything you should say it's The Love Below but that's still doing it a disservice.

No radio joints on a major label release that's an incredibly heady concept record about something white folks will never ever understand. Who's doing that, at this point in music? Nobody but Kendrick. This shit's pretty fucking important for a lot of reasons.

I said it played like a parliament spin off. If you know anything about what parlimament was doing it was all concept driven projects.

To me it's a more emotional psychedelic 'Like Water for Chocolate'. Bloody fantastic album.

Production is amazing. Kendrick is boring as a rapper and his voice sucks

Gonna listen to the album today...I really dug GKMC so I'm kinda psyched to hear where he goes w/this shit.

Hate the P-Funk comparisons. He was obviously influenced by the funk, but their aesthetic is completely different. P-Funk albums we're over the top, fun, and all made in a coke/acid fueled haze. They slipped messages in, but the music and feel came first. Kendrick is far too serious/straight laced to achieve a comparable aesthetic. Not that what he's doing is bad comparably, I just think it's a lazy comparison.

It reminds me of people comparing FlyLo's last album to Miles Davis and such. Sure he was influenced by Miles and fusion, but his album doesn't sound/feel anything like those records.

It's just hard for me to get down w/ how insular this album is. It feels more like an album for his die hard fans than GKMC, which struck the perfect balance between being able to pull people in with catchy music laced with underlying messages. It's like I know he's making an important artistic statement, but I can't decide if it's worth taking the time to unpack his message. GKMC wasn't an album that got a ton of replay value from me, but the first handful of full listens we're enjoyable as fuck, I'm not getting that w/ this one so far.

This guy takes himself way too seriously. Pretty disappointed on first listen, and I'm a big fan of the last one.
