why i don't like most white rappers
hey i'm just being honest. a lot of you feel the exact way but don't say shit, i can't live in silence.
Here is a new track called "They Call This (Hip Hop)" by Classified.
It features one of my favorite newcomers B.o.B. along with Royce Da 5'9. Song is good. Nice beat, hook and verses UNTIL this dude starts rapping.
Besides having an unoriginal track he raps are drowning, contrived and its a waste of two great guest spots.
If I said I don't mind white rappers I'd be lying and its because of this right here. Doesn't mean if you're white your wack it just means there is a greater chance of that being the case. And how did this dude get these cats on here when Can-U & Intuition significantly better?

album title with relation to the cover is pretty damning yet also hilarously accurate

If your argument is that white rappers suck because there are many more horrible, corn ball ones than good ones, that's true regardless of race.
In any case, to be fair, part of it is that:
1) 70% of the country is white and it's been 20+ years since hip hop listening was racially specific.
2) A lot of white people are into quasi-experimental genres of hip hop that most people who have been listening for 20+ years aren't that into. The stuff they're into is just fucking horrible to your specific ears (e.g. Epic has a fan base, I don't get it either).
3) While the production cost for making rap music is still relatively low (about 5K for a computer, a program, and a good mic), younger white people still have disproportionate access to home computers that they a) can claim as their own/dominate the use of within the household and b) have the processing speed to make music on. This is changing, but the digital divide still exists.
4) Hiphop is still thought of as an authentically black art form (dominicans and puerto ricans have really been erased from its early history), so white rappers have the extra hurdle of overcoming a baseline of assumed inauthenticity for some people. It sounds like this is true of you. Sometimes this comes off as hackneyed and inauthentic (Termanalogy) which drives people away, and sometimes the effort isn't even made (Asher Roth) which drives people away also. For some people white rappers need to not be trying too hard on one end, but need to not sound too white on the other end. There's a small niche if acceptable people then.

It's not the ratio of good to bad white rappers that discredits them alone. It's also the extremely low percentage of white rappers in the category of excellent or even notably competent rappers. Like, four in history.PopeyeJones wrote:If your argument is that white rappers suck because there are many more horrible, corn ball ones than good ones, that's true regardless of race.
Also whites almost never have bassy, cool voices and even when they do they still manage to fag it up 90% of the time. It doesn't matter how many blac rappers supposedly have the same flaws if virtually no whites can transcend them.
Show me ten honkies at any level of the industry from any period of history with voices as memorable and well suited for rapping as WC, Brother J, Slim Thug, Fat Joe, Ak Skills, Ludacris, Killer Mike, MC Thick, Rampage The Last Boyscout, or Rakim.
The playing field in rap is not racially even no matter how hard some people here desperately pray to their statue of Elvis that it is.
