FRESH RANT
Charles Hamilton steals beats:
Black Spadeג€™s ג€œShininג€™ג€

Image

Okayג€¦ so you guys know me, I usually play it cool on artists that Iג€™m not into and instead, stick to supporting & promoting those that I do feel. But in this case, enough is enough - this Charles Hamilton shit needs to end already. And Iג€™m not even tripping off of his personal life shit like a lotta people do - i.e. wearing pink, trying way to hard to make his fascination with Sonic characters sound deep when its not, his little schoolgirl blog writing style, etc. All of that is whatever to me - Iג€™m talking strictly music and his career. Besides being massively underwhelming and suspiciously overrated as an ג€œartistג€ - this dude has time and time again shown both a general lack of knowledge in hip-hop, as well as a arrogant disregard and overall lack of respect for it. You should already know how I feel about that wack ass mixtape he did over Dilla beats. And oddly enough, he left a comment replying to that post even though I never said his name in it and what he said just further confirmed that he is a newjack and doesnג€™t know what the hell heג€™s talking about. Saying that he ג€œanticipate[s] buying a real CD if it should dropג€ over a year and a half after the CDג€™s release dateג€¦ ?!!?? LMnonpinkAO.

But whatever, I said my peace in my reply back to him, stayed cordial and kept it moving. Since then, Iג€™ve been hearing a lot of stories about him being on some overall shady shit - jacking different producersג€™ beats and saying he did them, showing up unprepared for gigs & trying to use the opening actג€™s live band for his own set, starting YouTube/blog beefs with more established rappers, etc. But the e-mail that I got this morning from St. Louis producer/MC and Fresh Selects alumni, Black Spade, was the nail in the coffin as far as my tolerance for this dude.

Basically, Charles jacked a beat straight from Black Spadeג€™s MySpace player and rapped over it, released the song on one of his endless barrage of half-assed & disposable mixtapes, and ironically ended up performing the song right in front of Black Spade at SXSW the other week. So Spade approaches him after the show saying that he did that beat but liked what he did with it (his opinion, not mine), asked where he got it from, etc. So the jig is up, right? Nope! Aparently, this fool Charles still tried to act like he made that beat and even went on to say that it was HIM singing on there, when anyone whoג€™s ever heard a Black Spade song can clearly recognize that voice as Spadeג€™s.

So with Charles refusing to admit that he took the beat from Black Spade, Iג€™ve decided to post both of them here for you to decide for yourself. Below is Black Spadeג€™s demo beat and then Charlesג€™ song - both of which are coincidentally called ג€œShininג€™.ג€ Besides the different mix, youג€™ll notice that Charlesג€™ song also has an intro before the beat drops - thatג€™s something that Spade only included on the track when he uploaded it to MySpace, which is how he knows thats where Charles got it from. Iג€™ve included the full e-mail I received from Black Spade after the jump to further explain the story and to seperate his thoughts on Charles from my own.

holy shit! someone used a sample that someone else used! what a thief!
come on...this has been happening since the late 80's.
CH's beat had parts that the other guys didn't. thus, leading me to believe he simply sampled the same record, not the guys myspace page.
i'd have to hear the original song sampled but my guess is the both jacked that shit completely...drums and all.

i think the point is the actual beat jacking is what makes it fucked up along with the idea. sampling the record? thats whatever. CH don't wanna play with them STL dudes though.......

and for the record: Black Spade >>>>>>>>>>>>> Charles Hamilton on any day.

then we can see who rocked the shit better regardless (the beat jacking is still wrong, i just wanna see who rocked the beat better)
Black Spade been around for a minute. Can't think of everything he's done but he's appeared on Nicolay's album "Here" and put out an album called "To Serve With Love" last year on OM Records.

after hearing Charles Hamilton disrespectfully not want to make music with Rhymefest, this is just another reason to ignore him

he's not even as wack of an MC as i once thought. but he seems like a wack person...

the beat is kinda hot.

the worst about this is situation that its someone way more talented than him who's been in the music game for a while. not sure if this is correct, but i think Black Spade has played guitar on some major label releases in the past. if anything, i'd like to someone like him in CH's position instead.

The melody in the beginning of the song sounds alot like the sample to Nas' Life Is Like A Dice Game. But it's not. Check this out-

:icedit: My bad, I didn't realize you said at the end of the song. Still check that post anyway, it's dope.

Hamilton upped the ProTools session. Anyone with ProTools at home bored enough to actually check this out and break it down?

Hooray, indie rap drama.

Roflz all over just from the still video, haven't watched it yet. Can't from work.
I guess it further illustrates the acceptance and the noncaring(I can't find the word I'm looking for here)attitude towards beat biting in this generation.

But like I said,I didn't get to watch the video yet, so I may be talking out my ass. And he may just be a fucking dunce.

this is an interesting point. remember in the 90's when someone would use a sample that someone else already used? that shit drove me nuts. in fact, because of that, i probably wrote off a shitload of good songs just cause the beat was too familiar. the ill shit is , even back then, people acted like it was ok. like the "bind alley" loop or any james brown loop being used by 10 different artists at the same time. i always thought it was an unspoken rule to not knowingly use a sample twice. don't get me wrong, sometimes it happens by accident but other times you could tell the producer heard the sample flipped on another bet and just decided to use that same sample. and to clarify, i'm talking about loops. when chopping the samples comes into the picture, this changes.

i feel like nowadays, that has lessened. instead of using the same sample, motherfuckers are way more comfortable just flagrantly biting a producers style.
but that also may have to do with who can and cannot afford to sample.
so, in a way, CH is taking it back! just kidding.
CH is a biting faggot.
