I gave up on new rap but would make an exception for this if it's similar/as good as Pinata

Album of the year for me thus far. Don't see it as a classic, though I thought it had the potential to be based on its rollout. Still, a great album. Pretty cool how both Madlib & Muggs, who are around 50, are still experimenting with their sound. Also, enjoyed how Gibbs kept his content pretty topical. Something that a lot of the other top rappers in the game I feel struggle with. Interesting to hear how deep in the game he was still was even after Piniata dropped.

Not sure I'd agree with that yet. It's an easier listen, and addresses a lot of the things I thought Piniata struggled with, but not sure the high points on this album match Piniata's.

I liked Pinata a lot. But this is way better. It's cohesive and seems to have one direction. Feels like Lib was producing joints just for this project. There was a couple tracks on pinata that sounded like Gibbs was picking beats of a beat tape.

Album of the year for me easily.

Pinata for me was all brilliant singles with much less interesting album cuts, I expected an album full of songs like Thuggin and it didn't live up to that. Bandana feels more even throughout.

Most definitely agree on the cohesiveness, but not sure anything on here is to the level of the top songs on Pinata.

So in response to a question comparing his albums with with Lib to Madvillainy Gibbs says while it was a great project he's a much better rapper than Doom.

Thoughts?

I'd personally take Madvillainy over either of the Gibbs albums.

That was a premeditated comment. He knew exactly what he was doing by saying that and it worked! He doesn't believe that. Lib doesn't believe that. It was a perfect soundbite for the release. There is a new picture of him and Doom together floating around from the release party.

Not sure that's a new picture but agreed on their intentions behind the statement.
