Unpopular Rap Opinions

De La Soul's "De La Soul Is Dead" is the least listened to DLS album in my collection. I'll even go on record in saying that despite acknowledging the brilliance Price Paul provided and willingly admitting to liking several cuts I think I would rank it last out of their first 4 albums mainly because the skits just ruin it for me. I'm not a skit guy and I think most skits on albums fail miserably. The only memorable skit would be on 36 Chambers where they talk about banging nuts with rusty screwdrivers. Other than that, I don't care for skits it's just filler if you ask me.

My ranking
Buhloone Mind State
Stakes Is High
3 Feet High & Rising
De La Soul Is

Add on.

As aforemenionted in the troy threads redman albums gets highly repetitious and redundant

I feel the same way as jay about a de la album except its with regards to stakes is high.

Common's ressurection gets boring at about the 7 song mark and isnt nearly as good as One Day it Will All Make Sense.

Illadelph Halflife is a snoozefest, Phernology or do you want more is the best roots album.

Common could make an album with Dre and Premier and I'd have no desire to listen to it. I was never a huge Common fan, though I do own most of his albums. I enjoy the earlier Common but his nasal voice always annoyed me after a few continuous tracks. Also he seems to have become the biggest douche bag ever and it has ZERO to do with his millions he's making in Hollywood. Common has become the guy he used to despise in his raps. He is just extremely unlikable these days and hasn't really made great music either.

Murda Muzik > Hell On Earth

The "Physical Stamina" beat is dope

I'll add to your De La Soul mode and say the following:

- I rank the AOI series and Grind Date better than their early work.

- I think everyone knows that I do not rank Rakim in my top 5.

- Ghostface is just not that good. Method is the best in Wu.

- I do not believe ATCQ has made a classic album. I think they've made good albums, but none of which I would regard as classic.

I agree with this. And I have always preferred De La over Tribe.

I can understand what Jason is saying about De La Soul Is Dead, but I have a real personal connection to that album. Objectively speaking, it is pretty overwrought. Buhloone Mindstate is definitely the most "complete."

This is the most egregious in my opinion. I don't know how anyone can rank The Grind Date better than anything.

Killah Priest and Shabazz the Disciple are the best rappers out of Wu-Tang.

GURU is top 20 all-time.

Eminem has never made a dope album.

Vaudeville Villain is the best thing MF Doom has ever done.

Chuck D is currently > Lil Wayne, T.I., 50 Cent, Kanye West, etc.

Trent Reznor > any hip hop producer not named D

KRS-1 is overrated. He's not even close to guys like Kane and Rakim.

Atmosphere is for Hillbillys who think listening to hip hop gives them a cool pass

Blaq Poet, Illah Ghee, Nature, and Lakey da Kid are apart of hip hop's current top ten hands down

Blaq Poet's last album makes him a contender to GOAT status

Blaqprint was THE BEST hip hop album of this decade

Hieroglyphics are a bunch a dumb ass non pussy getting nerds who can't rap for shit.

All Canadians suck at rapping, always has and always will

Don't know if this qualifies as "unpopular" per se, but Heather B's first album is a personal classic to me. Every track is fire and I still listen to it regularly.

fact not opinion

-

Jay-Z still hasn't made an album better than 'Reasonable Doubt'

Dr. Dre is falling off cause he's so out of touch with the culture

50 Cent hasn't made a record that matters in years (except 'Tia Told Me')

By about a mile and a half. That can't be an unpopular opinion.

I'll agree with these two, and raise you a:

- I have never been able to sit through a whole Nas or Jay Z album without saying "who the fuck actually thinks either of them GOAT statuts?"

- but then again, I consider Lynch Hung and Spice 1 two MC's that should be on that to 20 GOAT list

- I think that, althought I hate the man, KRS is the most important figure in hiphop ever. ever ever. ever ever.

- Willie Dennis is in my top 5 MC's

- Mobb Deep are the #1 overrated MC's to ever touch the mic.
