Throughout all of human history and all of the enjoyments of music across that time there was about a 100 year period in which music was self-contained on sole-purpose, individualized objects. Saying that the real enjoyment of music is dependent on those objects and tied to them is ahistorical and fucking stupid.

Save for that, agreed on all the points made. I download everything before I buy it, and only buy shit that I think is really good or that I listen to more than a couple times (about 10 albums a year). I understand that it's fucked up to the artists, but I still do it because I don't really give a shit. For the stuff I do buy just to support I have absolutely no use for those CDs, have at most a fleeting interest in their packaging, and always end up giving them to people who I think might like the album and otherwise wouldn't hear it (although folks increasingly look at it blankly wondering what the fuck they're going to do with a CD).
I'm surprised more independet artists don't tag the end of the last song or the beginning of the first song with a drop that says "if you downloaded this and you enjoy it please donate to this paypal account so I can keep on making music." It's not going to solve the problem of illegal downloading, but it makes it easy and convenient for people to repay the artists in some form for their work immediately and from the conveniences of their own homes. There's no shortage of folks I'd send 5 to 15 bucks to purely because I like their album in lieu of getting my ass to a record store or paying S&H for an object I don't need or want. It won't solve the problems, but making it easier for folks to appreciate you monetarily should they choose to do so is full of win. There's really no reason not to.

legally blind doesn't mean they can't see anything... it means that they can't drive or use guns, etc. because their vision isn't legally reliable.pukaface wrote:I thought he was legally blind?
But he read the message that this kid sent...

thats strange, I didn't actually say anything negative. I am saddened by how you see racial hatred in everything that involves race discussion. Try to keep positive.Employee wrote:I'm not sure what's so unbelievable about that. We're really not about racial dischord or the promotion of racial hatred here. Let's keep it positive.cenzi wrote:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albinism
[/quote]Organisms with albinism usually have impaired vision due to one or more of the listed conditions. While a person with albinism may suffer from common refractive errors like nearsightedness or farsightedness, the visual problems particularly associated with albinism arise from a poorly-developed retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) due to the lack of melanin....... The resulting sensitivity (photophobia) generally leads to a dislike of and discomfort in bright light, but does not prevent people with albinism enjoying the outdoors, especially when using sunglasses and/or brimmed hats.[3]

As an artist I understand where he's coming from.
As a consumer, I don't know if I can necessarily agree with "having a relationship with the music". I truthfully just listen to the music and even tho' it cheers me up I don't look at it as a "relationship".
But I feel more inclined to support an underground artist who I know is struggling to live off this as opposed to buying an artist with a video on BET because I know it gets made up elsewhere and the record company is getting more than them.

i listen to music 90% from my ipod/computer but i always prefer to have a physical copy on the shelf if its something i really like.
that being said, i dont think ive downloaded an album not via itunes for almost years, maybe the single or leaked song just to get a taste..
im gonna miss these days when we no longer get a case or sleeve to read the liner notes from.
