J-Cole: particularly interesting

Post by Mindbender Futurama »

this dude is talented as hell and there's a clip of him murking some college university concert floating around... but he's a bit WOW with some of his comments.

getting pissed that Jay wants you to come and rap? I WAS LIKE UM :wtf:

[quote]Complex: How were you approached to be on ג€œA Star Is Bornג€?

J. Cole: I had a show in show in Virginia. This was back when I was just opening up for Wale on like a few dates. So, I was in Virginia, and I had two shows, one in Norfolk, and one in Richmond. I get a get a call from Mark Pitts and heג€™s like, ג€œYo nigga, Jay just hit hit me. He said he got something big for you.ג€ I was like, ג€œOh shit, what you mean?ג€ He said, ג€œHe got this Kanye trackג€¦ something about a star is bornג€¦some shit about a star.ג€ I thought, from his explanation, because you can tell he wasnג€™t too clear on it, I thought Jay just had a joint for me. I thought it would be mine, and I was on some shit like, Ahhh, I donג€™t like being told ג€œget on thisג€ or whatever. But Iג€™m like, Damn!

Complex: Even by Jay-Z?

J. Cole: Even by Jay-Z, yeah. Thatג€™s when the reality set in: Well, yeah it is Jay saying it, and itג€™s Kanye, so what the fuck you gonג€™ do? You gotta do it.

Complex: Hell yeah, man. People would die for that opportunity.

J. Cole: Exactly! So Iג€™m like, Okay, this is big right here. Iג€™m just thinking Iג€™m going on a Kanye song, or something. A couple days later, it got a little more clear: it was his song. I was like, Oh shit, that changes everything! Thatג€™s even bigger than what I originally thought! I think about a week and a half, two weeks later, I got the call, ג€œYo, can you come to the studio tomorrow?ג€ So I went there, waited like 40 minutes for Jay. I got there at three on the dot. I think i was 5 minutes early, yo! I was there at like 2:53! Got there, and he came inג€¦

Complex: Who was in the studio when you got there?

J. Cole: When I got there, nobody was there but Young Guru. I think he had slept there because he was working on some shit all night. So Guru was the only one there. About 45 minutes later, I see Jayג€™s security guys come from the studio room. I was like, Damn, how the hell they get in there, ג€™cause they wasnג€™t just sitting there. So, they were like, ג€œYo, J. Cole?ג€ Iג€™m like, ג€œYeah.ג€ Heג€™s like, ג€œJayג€™s ready to see you.ג€ [laughs] I walk into the room, this shit is mad weird. Iג€™m walking on eggshells basically, nervous and excited at the same time. I walk in the studio and Guru is in there, then I look at Jay, I say whatג€™s up, pleasure, nice to see you again. Then I look up and Beyonc

J. Cole is not of the Jay Electronica caliber. He's aiight, but he's not real.

He needs to find something more that separates him from the genuine reality rap. just like some more charisma or subject matter something.

I'll take a J. Cole track over a Jay Electronica song anyday. Straight up.

I dunno if he got what it takes to blow, but if he can keep making tracks on the level of "Lights Please" I'd say he got a good chance. Especially with the good response and presence he's got from being on "A Star Is Born."

he is kinda generic, but he's got skills. exactly what :jayz: would sign.

its like Kanye signing Big Sean. these guys never pick up stars that might outshine them.

why do you think Busta Rhymes ditched Lord Have Mercy from Flipmode? :killacam:

Lord Have Mercy was dope in a group setting, but as a soloist he sucked.

Kid is dope. Jay Electronica is 100000000000000000000x better, and if you disagree you probably buy Qn5 CDs and wear hoodies to formal events and shit.
