The State v. Radric Davis
I'm still not used to Gucci rocking over anyone other than Zaytoven's beats, but Bangladesh, Druma Boy and Fatboi haven proven to work. Even Scott Storch showed up here. Mannie's beat is killer.
Guccie crushes "Classical"
Classic Gucci on "Gingerbread Man". Probably my favorite song on the album.
Rick Ross is really good at rapping.
Nicki Minaj has found here niche and I can't get enough.
This album (and Gucci's rap rap rapping) is good enough to turn skeptics into fans.
1. "Classical" (Intro) Drumma Boy 3:34
2. "Interlude #1: Toilet Bowl Shawty/Mike Epps" 1:14

5. "All About the Money" (featuring Rick Ross) Drumma Boy 3:41
6. "Lemonade" Bangladesh 4:06

I think "My Own Worst Enemy" converted me into a fan.
I obviously don't think he can write lyrics worthy of much absorption, but I am assuming the beats on this record are the shit?
I will cop it if someone can at least vouch that the beats are Thug Motivation 101 calibre. I think "Wasted" is a disgusting beat.

his lyrics are great if u like dudes who are funny & creative -- beats are pretty uniformly dope, aside from the usher song which is a nu-R&B terdmaclethalcuntfucker wrote:I think "My Own Worst Enemy" converted me into a fan.

Album is fantastic, shits all over Clipse.
I don't like Spotlight, Sex in Crazy Places and the song w/ Soulja Boy.
Everything else is fantastic and very durable. This is his best studio album and I think it may convert some haters.
Favorites are probably Lemonade, Heavy and The Movie. Perhaps three of the best songs of his, yo imho.

Whether to Jason of Philaflava or John Podesta, I will speak my fucking perspective openly

its on the same level as the mixtapes. which i guess some ppl were expecting it to be a big leap ahead instead of, like, a summation of what hes been doing well all year.True King wrote:haven't listened yet but everywhere else i'm hearing the opposite, that it aint touchin his mixtapesComedy Quaddafi wrote: This is his best studio album and I think it may convert some haters.

hes rapping is so different now -- its actually pretty difficult to compare them. he was a lot less concerned w/ the technically fluid aspects of his rapping ... in time i might agree w/ you that it interests me more but right now he's def still pushing himself in new & interesting directions, his work is still on an upward arc, know what i mean?blastmaster wrote:Don't get me wrong this is a really good Gucci Mane album, and I can understand how people would be impressed by it, but its not touching his Big Cat shit. No way.

Like david111 said it's just so different. 05-07, I don't think he touched a pencil once. Even up until 2009, you can easily tell which verses are off the top of the dome, which was still most of them.blastmaster wrote:Don't get me wrong this is a really good Gucci Mane album, and I can understand how people would be impressed by it, but its not touching his Big Cat shit. Classical/Own Worst Enemy are that technical end of the spectrum, tracks like Heavy are more reminiscent of vintage Gucci. Like blastmaster I prefer the latter but I'm a long time Gucci head.
Personally I'm not a fan of some of the production on this, still a dope album but Back to the Traphouse>State vs>Traphouse.
It's not touching any of his classic mixtapes (Sportscenter, Movie Part 1, Ice Attack 1/2, So Icey Boy, Chicken Talk) and it's not even his best release of the year.
I'd rank his 2009 projects, The Movie 3D>The Movie Pt. 2 = The State vs. > Writing On the Wall
