New Random Axe joint...with Roc Marciano...
http://blackmilk.biz/music/random-axe-c ... -marciano/
...and somehow...it's kinda whatever.
I am officially worried that this project is just going to be a huge disappointment.

I agree with you.....and its not that anything I've heard has been poor, but maybe slightly underwhelming. I think anything with Black Milk beats and Sean P rhymes has a tough standard to reach. I'll still probably cop this though.COOLEHMAGAZINE wrote:New Random Axe joint...with Roc Marciano...

Sean P did not kill a damn thing on that verse. Nor is this the beat you give to these three guys for a project called Random Axe.Sebastion Shaw wrote:I'm kinda aggravated that that track was so meh....Sean P murdered it...Guilty brought the energy down and Roc Marci was damn near wack......He must just be scribbling in features now. For this beat and the set off they should have all come waay tougher

i like this song the most so far from what's out there, but i think this project is ultimately going to be underwhelming.

grabbing the album up right now. upon first listen to the joint with roc, the beat is def kinda whatever...sean p doesnt kill it but he wasnt wack.
i actually liked Guilty's verse, he didnt sound as bored as usual. I liked Roc's verse the most actually..not his best verse or feature but i liked some of the lines in there...
not my first choice for a track with Roc tho.

agreed. i think the difference in how each of them rap makes for a good listen and all the drums are obnoxiously crisp on damn near every beat. i can't deny i was really looking forward to this album and its probably slightly less enjoyable than I had hoped for, but its still a solid album that will get plenty of spins.

Album of the year for me.
Beats have more knock than anything else I've heard from BM lately.
Guilty's great, I don't know what you guys are talking about. He's funny as hell. "Blaze that kush get high with ya sister/when the pots consumed, cop a room/get her drunk, make love to her jaw/Guilty Simpson, nigga: your new brother in law"
And Sean Price is simply the best.

^^^ That line was re-used, I think. I can't remember which song though, it stuck out because it was so awesome.
Upon first listen it seems a bit bland to me. Most of Black Milk's stuff has been like that to me. I dunno, maybe a couple of listens will help it grow on me but I found myself getting bored very quickly. Which is odd, because P and Guilty are some of my favorite rappers. And with Black being one of my favorite producers, this is pretty much a dream come true.
Oh, and I'm pretty damn sure I've heard "Everybody Nobody Somebody" before.

Yeah I think it's from Blow The Horns on em, he doesn't do that line on RA, I just thought of it as the first example of why I like him.DJ Primate wrote:^^^ That line was re-used, I think. I can't remember which song though, it stuck out because it was so awesome.

A Kid wrote:still havent listened all the way thru but after hearing a few songs im definitely disappointed Black Milk is kinda playing the background for the other two.
Im more a fan of his than the other two and while i expected him to kinda disappear at times i didnt expect it to this degree.
Someone actually wants more Black Milk rhymes on this album?

i'm a fan of all of his albums. Guilty doesnt keep me interested and Sean pretty much spit each verse on any song you put on by him.COOLEHMAGAZINE wrote:A Kid wrote:still havent listened all the way thru but after hearing a few songs im definitely disappointed Black Milk is kinda playing the background for the other two.

its true, each verse is interchangeable with the last one, he's been a one trick pony for 3 or 4 albums now. not saying he doesnt still impress me at times but i can pretty much predict everything he's gonna say before he does.KITFUNK wrote:Nah.A Kid wrote:Sean pretty much spit each verse on any song you put on by him.COOLEHMAGAZINE wrote:A Kid wrote:still havent listened all the way thru but after hearing a few songs im definitely disappointed Black Milk is kinda playing the background for the other two.

He recycles a lot of shit, but as of late he's been putting out new material, so I dunno what you're talking about. Seems like you haven't been up on him (nh) in a while. He's put out a few new songs and most of his features are new.A Kid wrote:its true, each verse is interchangeable with the last one, he's been a one trick pony for 3 or 4 albums now. not saying he doesnt still impress me at times but i can pretty much predict everything he's gonna say before he does.KITFUNK wrote:Nah.A Kid wrote:Sean pretty much spit each verse on any song you put on by him.COOLEHMAGAZINE wrote:A Kid wrote:still havent listened all the way thru but after hearing a few songs im definitely disappointed Black Milk is kinda playing the background for the other two.

I agree to an extent. But I think you're exaggerating the facts a bit.A Kid wrote:im not saying he recycles actual verses or tracks, im saying he uses the same template verse for verse, song for song. rhyme scheme tends to be almost identical each verse. i'm a fan but thats been the gist of his solo career.
thank you so muchComedy Quaddafi wrote:Here's the P verses : )

on first listen i think this album is fucking great, easily one of the best, if not the best, album i've heard so far this year. the production is brilliant, Black Milk really stepped up his drum game over the years, his drum patterns are banging as hell on every single track and he often uses different type of rhythms, including syncopated ones. the sound is much more reminiscent of "Tronic" than any of his other albums, and this is a good thing for me - i didn't like "Album Of The Year". i love how he actually has a true Black Milk sound by now, best producer in Detroit right now.
as for the emcees i think they displayed a nice chemistry, Sean P's and Guilty's voices match well. just like with Heltah Skeltah, Guilty has a very ruff and dark voice like Rock also has of course. i need some more spins to really dig deeper into the lyrics but i heard much that i liked and for me both G and P had outstanding verses. "Karate Kid" as Philaflava mentioned, that's some lyrical flava right there!!
another thing that i really appreciated was that Black Milk pretty much stuck to his gunz with the production to let Guilty and Ruck do the rhyming, only adding a verse and a hook here and there; peppers and spice as someone said. and the last thing that made me appreciate it even more was that when the tracklist was revealed people were saying there was 10 songs and the rest was skits so i was little worried it was going to be a little like the horrible actual track to pointless skit ratio that destroyed the "OJ Simpson" album.
all in all, this will be getting plenty of spins and i will pick it up when i'm back on track economically.
