Eightball & MJG?

Post by odium-LSC »

So, I'll probably get  'd for this but I don't think I've ever really listened to any of their shit. I heard an mjg verse on something else and thought it was dope as fuck. So my question is what should I check out first? They've got hella albums and I don't want to end up picking their shittiest one and establishing my opinion off that so somebody point me in the right direction please.

On Top of the World is my shit. I believe it's also regarded as their best although I'm not 100 on that. It has an old school wc sound to it IMO.
Whether to Jason of Philaflava or John Podesta, I will speak my fucking perspective openly

They have put out quite a bit of solid material.

I would say anything Pre-2000 would be your best bet

My favorite but you really can't go wrong with anything in their catalog outside of Ridin' High which was pretty awful. BID mentioned MJG's solo's (I actually like his first one) but 8Ball's are pretty great too.

Do this. And IMO, 8Ball peaks at his triple disc album Lost.

Shine And Recline off that first MJG album is amazing

Eightball solo "Lost" is that super duper

Outside Looking In has some very bright moments

any albums where they reference space age pimpin is going to be good...aside from the album by that title...which was HORRIBLE

Theres some "albums" out from them that arent really theirs...Memphis Underworld i believe is one of them

I prefer 8ball & MJG over UGK most of the time. But thats mainly because they are my favorite duo in rap. Comin Out Hard is one of the best albums of all time far as IM concerned.

On Top Of The World definitely.
8Ball's two verses on here are nuts:
<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_KfGCCC2ntE?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_KfGCCC2ntE?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
8Ball's solo Lost is great too. Pretty much everything up til Spage Age 4 Eva is worth checking, then they got a bit less consistent.
<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QUiJvvOTLSA?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QUiJvvOTLSA?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Revisiting On Top of the World today. I swear that this record sounds better every time I come back to it.

On Top of the World and Coming Out Hard are two of my favorite albums.

My favorite 8ball and MJG song is Break Em Off and the Beatminerz remix is dope too (even though it's clean)
