Finally. I heard an interview by Statik Selektah a few weeks before I heard this and he mentioned Saigon was extremely close to getting the masters for Greatest Story Never Told. He also said All In A Day's Work 2 is post-poned, but the beats are picked. Hopefully we can finally get this album to drop and Saigon can get his career started. He's probably the most talented MC to debut after 2000. Anyways, here's 3 great compilations to introduce or remind you why Saigon has so much hype. Everyone check these out..

Abandoned Nation (2001-2005):

The Greatest Story Never Told (2005-2007):

Yeah Thun kinda beat me to the punch. He a very long window of opportunity and whenever he does drop the album I can't see it selling.

He was on Entourage like 3-4 years ago. That was his peak.

On the same note Jay Electronica better get his shit together.

This can't be stressed enough, we don't even have a full version of "Dear Moleskine" yet. Shit is weak.[/b]

His singles were never really getting that much play (besides in NYC) when he was on Entourage though. Dude was never going to sell that many records whenever he dropped. That's not a diss to his talent, just a reflection on the commercial state of hip-hop now. Raekwon made the most acclaimed NYC hip-hop record of the past 2-3 years and how many did that sell?

At least now, assuming he doesn't make a stupid move and get a shitty percentage on his sales, he can make more money per record than he would if the album came out on Atlantic.
On the same note Jay Electronica better get his shit together.
Regardless, his album won't sell either. 100K-200K is a best case scenario.

Rappers have no incentive to "get their shit together" and make an album because there's no real money to be made selling a product that more people will illegally download than buy. Jay's probably doing alright as it is just leaking singles and making money off fans that come to see him drunkenly rant for an hour and perform 3 tracks at his shows.

A NYC based artist could sell a respectable amount of albums (say in the Gold range) if he bothered to come up with an original style that was faithful to his upbringing and just made some catchy singles. The whole pandering to kids/The South/internet shit has clearly failed.

The only rappers that really do this, Jay-Z and Maino (to a lesser extent because while he has catchy singles that don't try and debut a new dance or aren't blatant Southern style jacks he isn't that original (he's trying to be an East Coast 2Pac)), don't really get any props (on here).

Fabolous, Jim Jones, Jadakiss, Mims etc etc called.

From Rumors to Hi Hater, Maino is a great singles rapper. Wish he'd made Role Model a single and given it a video.

I still think it will sell well compared to his peers (NYC underground / street rappers like Styles P, Cormega, etc.). Saigon just needs to realize what his lane is and go independent and put out youtube videos to promote it. Forget about big-budget videos and trying to get singles on the radio.

I meant a new artist. The style doesn't have to be completely original (because how often does that even happen in rap now) but it should be fresh to our ears.

The only recent NYC artist that I feel is Meyhem Lauren and he's a little too throwback to sell crazy units, but his energy and dedication to the actual craft set him apart.

^So if there was a somewhat younger cat with a slightly updated style making these kind of songs, and just making two that were catchy/dumb enough for the women and children, and had the right push and support, he would go gold. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Saigon is a dumb fuck who could've put out a debut in 2002/2003 and another official album in 2006/2007 if he wasn't such a martyr-complex having idiot.

Damn, those tracks are pretty nice. Also, I agree with the going gold thing. Also, why does he need to sell lot of units anyways? He's better off building onto his solid fan base and makng money off merch and tours, like everyone else. Same goes for Jay Electronica.

He shoulda sold out. The music he makes of his own volition sucks (see warning shots 2). The music Atlantic forced him to make is way better. I remember reading an interview where he said "don't do that" is his least favourite song he made and he hated doing it. What a retard. Without creative direction from above he will put out garbage.

Has he released an album with those songs on it or are those just random singles and whatnot?

^So if there was a somewhat younger cat with a slightly updated style making these kind of songs, and just making two that were catchy/dumb enough for the women and children, and had the right push and support, he would go gold. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Anybody got this dudes Acknowledge Greatness album with J-Love, PM me a link please.

He's aiight but he definitely is not the most talented emcee too debut since 2000.

Jay Electronica
Mitchy Slick
Blu
Elzhi
Guilty Simpson
Fashawn
Nipsey Hussle
Phonte
Joell Ortiz
Imortal Technique
Buff1
Karniege
Marq Spekt
Supastition
Kaze

I'd rather listen to all of these guys spit ova Saigon any day. He's overrated simple and plain. You may agree or disagree with some of the heads I mentioned. I really don't give a fuck because it's all a matter of personal choice, but these are people listed to my knowledge that are nicer than Sai that debuted after the millenium.

of all the guys you mentioned, the only ones that i can consistently listen to are elz, supastition, phonte, fashawn, jay elect and blu. the rest of those cats are too flawed and don't get play unless they absolutely rip a verse or have some incredible production backing them.

and of those guys, the only one i MIGHT put above saigon is elzhi, but even he has yet to drop a dope album after all these years.

blu is a former church boy who didn't listen to hip-hop until he was a grown man and he now is trying to fill the role of a hieroglyphics/dream warriors rip-off rapper who gets boring quickly, supa is too "i'm just an average guy who makes music, empathize with me" for me at times, phonte is dope but he caught the andre 3000 disease and would rather sing now than rap, jay elect puts out 1 radio quality 30 second snippet of music every 6 months than lies about releasing mixtapes/street albums, fashawn is dope and is what blu would sound like if he went to public school but he still needs to grind some more and drop some more dope shit before i can pick him over saigon.

so of all the cats you mentioned saigon is better nearly all of them and equal to/greater than one of them (elzhi.)

either way, i hope he can release that lp now that he's off atlantic cause that shit will be greatness. you can't deny that.
