saying outkast fell off a long time ago is obviously beating a 10-year old dead horse, but i was listening to a lot of outkast music over the last day or two, and i was wondering what the general :phila: consensus is of this album...

to me this album is a monumental tease, with the first song being real good and the album having a few peaks, but on its own merits this album, to me, is top to bottom a piece of shit.

i remember a really long time ago on either here or hhi, certain individuals really liked this album, so now 10 years later, are there people that still love this album?

I think it's dope, but I don't play it too often for whatever reason. Their first is far and away my fav OutKast record and is still in regular rotation.

Been a while since I've listened to it, but I only remember enjoying a couple songs on it. After aquemini I felt it was a huge dissapointment. I completely agree with your assessment.

"Gasoline Dreams"
"So Fresh, So Clean"
"Snappin & Trappin" (first Killer Mike/Mike Bigga verse ever released)
"Spaghetti Junction"
"I'll Call Before I Come"
"Humble Mumble"
"Red Velvet"
"Gangsta Shit"
"Slum Beautiful"
"Stankonia (Stanklove)"

All of those songs above are dope. I vehemently disagree with this topic. This album is my third favorite after "Southernplayalisticadillacmusick" and "Aquemini".

this album is amazing. don't really get the hate.

maybe because it's unconventional and has a lot of outside the box shit on it. But most if not all of the album is dope as fuck.

the flow on ? ......come on, shit's crazy. humble mumbles polyrhythmic feel in the chorus, the verses too, andre's verse on red velvet. all off the hook.

I rank the Outkast albums Aquemini, ATLiens, Stankonia, Southernplayalisticadillacmusick, simply for the fact that the I don't think Outkast really found their original voice on the debut, even though it's undeniably dope.

The scope of the album for Outkast is pretty fucking big (nh). A lot more than a collection of "passable" cuts. I'm arguing my case to a guy who likes Mystikal and you to a guy who owns a CD with a FuseOne song on it, though.

The only Outkast album I can pretty much listen to front to back (As in all time favorite) is Southernplayalistic. ATLiens is dope, Aquemini is alright, Stankonia is meh.

stankonia is a great album

I would rank the albums in order of their release with southernplayalistic being #1, obviously

Good album, but I think it could have been great. It was pretty inconsistant, but when I liked something I liked it a lot. The concept probably could have been executed better. It pales in comparison to their first 3 records, but it's still a good album. I can understand why someone would say they like it more so than 1 of the first 3 albums.

I can understand people who don't like this album, and there's a few songs that I don't enjoy. There's also a few songs that I do enjoy- but don't have a lot of desire to listen to again (mostly near the end). However, there's enough really great songs that make this a really, really good album.

ATLliens. Easily my favorite Outkast album, and one of my favorite hip-hop albums of all-time.

I wasn't a huge fan of "Stankonia", but I'll probably appreciate it more now.

I wasn't a big fan of "Atliens". I think that album is extremely overrated. "Elevators" is one of Outkast's greatest cuts, but beyond that I have never really felt "Atliens". It came on the heels of their debut and it was way different than their first offering. Being different eventually became an Outkast staple and I started liking them more when they came back with "Aquemini"

I remember taking "Atliens" back to Wherehouse Music and exchanging it for "Ironman". Way better purchase.

Would've never had Employee down as a Stankonia fan.

I really wish D.F Interlude was a song. Them rhyming over that beat would've been nuts.

The good songs on this album are really great.

The not so good songs are still pretty good.

They took a lot of huge risks on this album, so it simply won't appeal to everyone.
